I really dont know... it puzzles me too. But you have to understand that what one group of ppl see as their furry little friends, who we spend so much time with, and love and affection on that they become almost family, another group sees them and thinks "dinner". Its a matter of conditioning. Its like as if there were people who cry over the fact that big old cows are just cuts of meat for the majority of the world.
But still... I dont understand the eating of locusts, worms, cockroaches and crickets but its the eating of cute little puppies that just gets to me.

The Chinese are not the only people to eat dog or cat. While living in Italy I ate meat sauce made from dog and it was quite good tasting. Some countries do it for economical reasons, others cultural. Personally I don't see the difference in that and some Americans eating turtle or squirrel. Maybe they just like it!!

I'm not Chinese but have travelled extensively throughout Asia. There's a special breed of dog served as a delicacy in some regions and it's perfectly legal and safe to eat. I tried it and to be quite honest, it wasn't half bad. The psychological aspect is actually more frightening than the mean itself.

Consider the Icelandic "Rotten Shark Fin" delicacy or the Greek stew that's made of the heart, lungs, head, eyeballs, intestines, testicals, etc of a lamb. I wouldn't be so quick to judge other cultures eating habits. I've been to certain parts of the USA where road kill is a delicacy and as a matter of fact, there's a food festival for road kill chefs!

First off, this question can be very offensive. The Chinese are not the only group of people who eat dogs and cats. Other cultures do, too. Secondly, you referred to the Chinese in a diragatory way. Do not think you can get away with addressing them as "darn Chinese people" without being thought of a racist. Obviously, you are quite sheltered or unopen to other cultures. Americans eat beef, pork, and poultry. Other countries may find that "yucky", so who are you to criticize the Chinese culture for eating animals that you think of as pets? Honestly, you need to pull your head out of your *ss for five minutes and realize that there are other cultures out there, and of course, other customs come with those cultures.

I wonder if the East Indians ask the same question about Europeans in regards to cows.

Just because our culture has an adversity to eating a certain type of food does NOT make it wrong. Believe it or not America isn't the center of the universe and not everyone has to "do as we do".

Every nation and it's people have the right to be individuals and eat, believe, and behave as they choose.....Isn't America supposed to be all about the "Freedom of Choice" after all?

The worst aspect of this whole barbaric act is that the dogs are hung up and skinned alive before cooking.
