Apres ski is what they call the social life in the evenings when the slopes are closed. In can be partying / socialising in your hotel or chalet or out drinking in a bar, clubbing it or merely enjoying your dinner. It is merely a time for relaxing and having fun. People do not dress up for this (trousers and jumpers will be fine). Relax and have a great time.

Apres is french for Apron. Apres Ski is the practice of skiing backwards down a steep slope wearing nothing but an a small waitresses apron while carrying two large jugs of beer. It was an early olympic sport but was banned after a particulary nasty incident involving a slalom pole. The term has been adopted to describe the heavy drinking sessions that often result in a similar sensation.

Apres ski means after skiing...like at the lodge or at a bar or restaurant...or in your room. You don't need to bring anything special...just yourself and your sparkling personality :)

Apres-ski is basically what you do after you are done skiing.
Typically, this involves cramming yourself into a bar packed with drunken skiers and telling big stories about your day. All you really need is a credit card and a fake id, and you are in!
Other ski-speak you might want to be aware of before your trip:
Gaper - A gaper is someone who cannot ski well and is typically wearing brand new ski-wear they bought in Atlanta that easily identifies them to locals as a rookie. Used in a sentence -> "I was skiing and this gaper chick ran into me"
Gumby - See "Gaper"
Gomer - See "Gaper"
Park-Kiddie - This is slang for terrian park kids. I say kids because most of us over 25 would die if we crashed in the terrain park. Park kiddies can be spotted because they will have on metal studded belts, often have ripped ski pants hanging down below their knees like gangster rappers, and will be coughing from the pot they smoked 10 minutes ago.
Cougar - A middle-aged woman who is at the resort without her family.
Cougar-attack - This is when a (usually drunken) "Cougar" attempts to hook-up with a much younger guy. This is a frequent occurence in ski towns. Used in a sentence -> "He woke up and realized he had become the victim of a Cougar-attack" or "Watch out dude, Cougar-attack in progress"
Crud, Mank, Slush, Crap - Shitty snow
Pow - Fresh snow
Courduroy - Groomed snow
Ego Turns - Easy skiing on good snow
Snow Bunny - A chick who cannot ski but is hot anyway
BMW - Burly Mountain Woman. She is hot and can ski to boot!
Huck - To throw oneself off of a cliff.
Core Shot - The big hole left in your ski when you hit a rock
There are millions more, but that should get you started....

apres = "after"
ski = "ski"
(in french)
It's the after-party, log fires, singing and dancing, drinking and other silly stuff.
Take a cheesy looking Woollen Jersey with Reindeer on it, and a camera so you can blackmail the other guys later.
