The Centurion did not carry a flag - he was the commander. There were no flags like today. The Romans used what are called 'Standards', and whoever carried one was a standard bearer (English). There were two standards in a Century - the Signum, carried by the Signifer, which was the symbol of the Century, and the Vexillium, carried by the Vexillarius, which was the 'marker' of the unit - used to locate it in battle. That's about the closest to a modern flag. The full Legion had its own Standard, always an eagle after about 100 BC. It was carried by the Aquilifier.

Signifer, Vexillarius, and Aquilifer were all positions of honor within the unit.
