I hear it all the time, but I don't understand why people say it to each other?

It is short for "God Bless You"... In the Medeval times people believed that when you sneezed, your soul went to Hell and the only way to get you back would be to say "God Bless You" or "Bless you". I don't like it when people say "God Bless America" because people say it for tradition. Really it should be "God Save America".

There is an old tale that dictates that when you sneeze, a part of your soul escapes your body. People say "God Bless" so that it finds its way to "heaven" in good standing.
Weird, but that's what it is! They're just wishing you well, that's all. If your religious inclination doesn't jive with that just let it go. It's easier than making a Grand Stand every time.

I think God Bless is an incomplete sentence and it should be followed with something. God Bless you with a wonderful day...life...week...health...etc

Basically what the person above said. Also a lil known fact...since we on yahoo answers and all....When we say bless you when you sneeze...its for a good reason. Your heart stops for a second. So technically you die..for like a second though...lol God Bless darlin
