The bible it condicts its self everywhere. Anyone who otherwise has not read the whole bible. Also, the bible has be translated and re-written so many times you truly don't know what to believe. Also through translation there always isn't there isn't a right word for the one you are translating. (I'm sure that didn't make sense to you so here's an example)Say the sentence was: The girl rode her horse.
There might not be the right word for girl or rode so the person translating might have to leave out that sentence or pick another word for girl or rode. There are also lost books of the bible so... if you haven't read them you don't know what to say you believe, but they have been re-written too. Also through time the bible has been added on to. For example the last part of Rev. Do not add or re-write, that was added on in the Middle Ages by a king so that everyone would be afraid to believe anything that is not in the bible. If you don't believe me on any this do a little research.

You are correct.
As the Bible was compiled, organized, translated, and transcribed, many errors entered the text. The existence of such errors becomes apparent when one considers the numerous and often conflicting translations of the Bible in existence today. Careful students of the Bible are often puzzled by apparent contradictions and omissions. Many people have also been curious about references by biblical prophets to books or scriptural passages that are not currently in the Bible.

“I believe the Bible as it read when it came from the pen of the original writers. Ignorant translators, careless transcribers, or designing and corrupt priests have committed many errors.” (DHC, vol. 6, p. 57.)

The thoughtful reader of the Bible soon observes that there are many passages that are vague and hard to understand and that seem to be incomplete. Some passages also appear to be contradictory. We understand that there are not so many things in the King James Version of the Bible that are incorrect, but rather, because of faulty transmission and missing parts, that which remains is often unclear and devoid of its full meaning.

HOWEVER,
By studying the Bible one can "mark the power of Omnipotence, inscribed upon the heavens, can also see God's own handwriting in the sacred volume: and he who reads it oftenest will like it best, and he who is acquainted with it, will know the hand [of the Lord] wherever he can see it"

Hey Darcy, like I said feel free to EMAIL me or IM Me. I would love to discuss many of these questions with you.

The Bible does not "contradict" itself everywhere. In fact the Bible NEVER contradicts itself theologically. And not one person has successfully countered that true point.

Many of the supposed contradictions are either misunderstood or taken out of context.

The do not add or take away, is greatly attested in the manuscripts much older than the Middle Ages. And that verse is not speaking about the Bible but about the book of Revelation.

Also, the translation issue is simply a reality. If you have ever stuided a foriegn language you know that sometimes it is hard to get the exact rendering.

Some translations seek to find the exact english word that matches the greek/hebrew word. Others try to find the english phrase that best communicates the meaning of the greek/hebrew phrase. See my best answer about the best bible translation for more info.

Its not all that confusing, if you look for faults you will find them, because you want to. If you look for contradictions you will find them, if you start going back and forth, trying to figure it out you will get confused.
One must understand, that each book is based on different things and times. And some books are used as referrals so you can check to see ,how one relates to the other. As for missing books sure some are missing ,but that don't mean that what you read is misleading you. Its how you perceive it to be. Or in other words. your read, and see what you see. others could read the same, and see it different from you. Others could read it and not believe it as some people do. others read it, and understand better then others. It depends on who you are, and what you want to find, and how one accepts it

Darcy. You start with the premise that there is a God or there is not. If you believe there is God, who is He? The ask yourself who are you in relationship to your God. That will take a lot of time.

I can only say if you dispute the accuracy of the Bible, then research those who have done their homework on proviing it AND those who dispute it.

I am sure you will find that those who dispute do agree that the Bible has EVIDENCE of its authenticity, but that its still not PROOF.

I don't konw about you, there is so much to learn and study out there. For me, I'm trusting in God, and I continue each day to study the Bible and non Bible resources. I find it only increased my faith.

Blessings to you.

I'm not sure I know what you mean by "agree". Much of the Bible is (alleged) history. Are you using "agree" as in, "Do you agree President Lincoln was shot?" or as in, "Do you agree with the shooting of President Lincoln?" As for the ethical teachings of Jesus, I don't really have a problem agreeing that we should love our neighbor and care for the poor.

There is a simple answer to your question|

The Bible is not a literal relating of scientific or historical facts (although it does have a historical aspect to it)|

What it is, is a relating of the most profound and mysterious truths wrapped up in symbol, allegory, analogy and that sort of thing|

Often we tend to think that the facts that we can perceive and understand are all that there are|

But there are vastly higher truths in reality that our minds on this earth are simply not programmed to understand.

It would require an extra dimension of consciousness to grasp them, which is granted to the blessed in heaven|

The Bible addresses these truths in coded form|

The Bible has infinite depths and layers of meaning to it|

as a Christian, you must know that the Bible is the inspired, inerrent Word of God.
how else can one become a Christian other than from the information contained in God's Word?
The Bile is God's Word....The Truth! 100%!
if any part is not the truth, then God is a liar, is He not?
so, to be a Christian you must believe every Word God says.
John 1:1 says that Jesus Christ is The Word.
If you do not believe the Word, you do not believe in Jesus and, thus, cannot claim the title of Christian.
That is what God says about the matter.
