now is the radiator as you call it a gas radiator?the radiator in the house should be full of water....if this is the case then its simple .make sure the heating system is switched off.turn both valves as you stand in front of the radiator clock wise until both valves are shut...get a adjustable spanner or wrench and loosen both large nuts next to the valves.a small amount of water will be lost.make sure that any pipe clips are loosened and then gently lift the radiator up and off the wall brackets and lower the rad forwards until it lays on the floor.nip up the nuts and carry on ...when you have painted the wall ,do the reverse of this process ,dont forget to open the valves back to where they were before you start up the heating system.

When you say "Gas radiator" i take it you mean Gas central heating and the radiator has water in it?

If so they lift off hooks on the wall. Before that close the radiator valves, slacken the nuts on the radiator so it swivells down when you lift it off the wall. I always tighten them up once lowered, so i can put the heating back on. Also have a Basin and towels to hand just in case.

Ask someone if you're not sure.

To do a proper job, I would remove the radiator, if I was wall papering, or to get at the skirting, If its only emulsioning ,use a roller to get behind. With a bit of help, you can remove them. the iso
Close the isolation valves. If you are satisfied with valve closure
get bowl, and rags ready
crack open the unions
Quickly lift off the brackets, and turn upside down

You don't have to take off the radiator you can get a special long handled roller to paint behind them. Check out your local diy store!

Yes you will have to get a radiator roller , small 35mm depth by 150mm long does behind rads (thats what its for) long 600mm handle cleaning behind first well is 70% of job . Roller also used for painting rads.good luck ,turn off rad until paint is dry.

If you have a small space behind radiator, buy a radiator roller. As to messing about with a gas appliance, DON'T.

Put one of those flat songe brushes on the end of a stick... you wont be able yo see the bit right behind it so thats ok.. taking a radiator off yourself sounds difficut and dangerous, especially a gas one!

If you cant scoot the radiator out enough to get a roller or brush, I suggest you turn off the gas to the radiator and unhook it...good luck

DON'T! Unless you understand plumbing please don't! If there is any gas supply to the radiator or heater you will blow yourself up! At the very least you run the risk of flooding the place! Just reach as far behind the radiator as you can!
