i see tons of questions and answers about Yahweh or whatever you want to call him being the only true God, well ok that's just peachy but who were the Gods before him? why are they less valid because he came into the picture? a lot of those Gods are still being worshipped.

you mean to tell me that hundreds of thousands of people that worshiped various Gods were all wrong? all confused? how is it that they had no knowledge of the so-called true God. why didn't he speak to them?

When American believers say "God" they overlook the fact that that word "God" has been applied to countless deities for thousands of years before Christianity existed. It is pretentious and ignorant to pretend that only your own God is the "true" God, although I suppose the fundies of all religions do so.

In most cultures, there are many personalities associated with the word "God". But the idea that there is only one God, monotheism, was invented by Akhnaton, a.k.a Ikhnethon, a pharoah of Egypt. The Hebrews who were followers of Moishe, a.k.a. Moses, were not monotheists but henotheists. They accepted that many gods existed, but just insisted that their Yahweh must be held superior to all the rest. "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" does not deny that there are other gods; it just insists that hey, Yahweh is numero uno, and don't you forget it.

If you accept the idea of everything having been created by a super-being of some sort at all then there are some things you have to consider.

Does every culture have its own super-being? Nearly every people in existence have their own creation story. Are they all true for each and every people?

My answer to that (not that it needs to be anyone else's) is no. I believe that there is one being that created everything. And that every people have seen and interpreted that being as one or many gods in the way that made the most sense to them. So in that sense everyone is/was correct. There is some truth in all of the stories and in all of the interpretations of God.

The only true God is the God of the Bible and He wants to be called by the names given Him in the Bible. You can worship all the idols of wood and stone you wish, but they do not have eyes to see you, or ears to hear or perhaps more important a heart to love you. Often unrecognized are the gods of the various lusts of our flesh, love of money, and love of self above God. I too feel sorry for the people who do not know the one and only true God, but that does not change the Bible, but simply is all the more reason for doing all in our power to spread the gospel.

The is only one god and he doesn't have a name. We call Him with names. According to Christians Jesus said that you can call the God with my name (Because is His Son). If you are a monotheistic person then you realise that there is only one god. In the ancient period people were not capable of realising who the real God was so they created and worshipped false Gods until the time that His Son came to earth to teach us about Him.

There is only one God, the One who created "the heavens and the earth, the seas and all that in them is". All the "other" gods that men made up weren't created until after the Flood, when Noah's great-grandson Nimrod became deified into a sun-god after he died, and his wife Semiramis became deified into a goddess, upon whom all goddess-worship throughout human history is based, including Marian worship. Almost all false gods of history are based upon these two, or upon Semiramis' love child, Tammuz.
When God saved only 8 people through the Flood because they were the only living people before the Flood who worshippped the True God, I'd say that pretty much narrows it down. If they existed, why didn't the "other" gods save their people from the Flood?

If you were to actually pick up your Bible and read in the books that are inspired of the True God and only God and Creator, whose name is Jehovah. Exodus 20:1 And God proceeded to speak all these words, saying " I am Jehovah your God who have brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slaves" You must not have any other gods against my face." You must not make for yourself a carved image or a form like anything that is in the heavens above or that is on the earth underneath or that is in the waters under the earth...
Dueteronomy 6: 13 Jehovah your God you should fear, and him you should serve and by his name you should swear"
Exodus 6:2 And God went on to speak to Moses and to say to him"I am Jehovah" and I used to appear to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as God Almighty".

it is a marketing strategy. just like "Coke Is It"

people have always understood the power of marketing.

the best form of marketing is to condemn the opposition as inferior. but now we have laws that say you cant flame another brand, so now we just say how great our product is.

back then, you could slam the hell out of your opposition and call them false.

the Christian god was the McDonalds of the ancient middle east folks. the golden arches of holy worship. and equally as unhealthy for you.

I wish to deal with the first question, which answers all of the rest. The only answer to that would be that if God is true then the 'others' you say were before Him would be the exact opposite of true.

Actually, only one God exists. He has many names, so if you call Him Allah, El, Eloh, Yahweh, Parabrahman, Ahura Mazda, etc. they all refer to the same being. These are not separate gods, but separate names for one God.

There never was but one True God. The other so called gods were false, Buddhist, golden calves, etc. They were gods only in the superstitious minds.
