There is a scientist called Humphries who theorizes God used a white hole to create the universe. Black and white holes were theorized by Einstien before the first black hole was ever observed. Once we could observe black holes we found Einstiens math to be proven correct. No white holes have yet been found to study, but it is believed that things in a hole (black or white are subject to a different time because of the disruption of the space time distortion. To be honest it is a lot above my head, but so far neither secular or Christian scientists can fault his reasoning. Here is an article about him.

Kudos on knowing the difference between biology (evolution) and astronomy (BB). If more people did there'd be fewer creationists. My understanding is that they use one of two methods to explain it away: - God created the universe with the light rays from the stars most of the way here already. Seriously, some argue that. - The speed of light has slowed down substantially since the beginning of the universe (usually with a comment about how it's just part of the decay of everything because of a transgression by two people thousands of years ago). Books have been written defending this position, but the data that backs them up is really shaky: the reason is that early methods used to estimate its speed were very primitive, and severely overestimated it. There's an older answer, which is supported by scripture: the sky is actually a hard surface a few miles up ("the firmament") with the stars painted on it by God. While this is what the Bible tells us about the sky, modern creationists tend not to use it because it's been so obviously refuted (by space travel, for instance).

To me the amazing part is that God lets you see that light. God says He is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5
The smallest light can dispel the greatest darkness.
Before all others - before any other person, spirit or thing - foremost - the beginning - the Alpha was the Great Time Giver - Almighty God. Light is the most critical external timer ... time giver. Any time indicator such as light, dark or temperature is influencing our biological clock. Psalm 27:1 "The Lord is my light..." In the Bible God's says he can take us up in a twinkling of the eye - faster than light. John 1:4 "In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
Light has many meanings. Life light, time light, sun light, year light, and true light. Christ is the True Light because in Him is no darkness at all.
The Bible teaches that absent from the body present with the Lord. I'm going up millions of light years to heaven in seconds. I don't think it takes a million years for light to travel from a star a million light years away from earth. If it did, how come you can see it? If it truly is that unreachable, why would God let you see it? Maybe this new quantum spin waves will teach us something.

Maybe we didnt measure stars so properly?
No am sure we did to an extent.
The universe is much older ofcourse.
But Gods days probably arent the same as earth days either.
Who knows.
I actually have a better question. Theres an interesting document called the Piri Reis map, that was made in 1513 and has very detailed map of the coast of the antarctic WITHOUT the ice. Did you know that the research we have says the antarctic coast should have been covered by ice back then?
I ask you. What do we really know?

The young earth creationist will probably reply that it is only a fiction that the star is that far away. But all of that is nonsense, as has been demonstrated by a dozen different scientific disciplines, all of which give the same answers. The earth is something over four billion years old; the universe is over 13 billion years old. Mankind, of the sort you would recognize as such, has been around for roughly a million years.

I was born and raised a Christian. Also raised to believe that the universe was only 10,000 years old. I remember when I was a freshman in high school and I learned about astronomy and about the speed of light and learned about the distance these stars were from the Earth.
This is probably when I had one of my biggest intellectual doubts about my faith. I knew God was real though and figured I may never know the answer and I was just keep my faith.
As I grew more mature in my faith, I learned that the Bible does not teach that the universe is only 10,000 years old. In fact the Bible never implicitly or explicitly gives us the age of the universe.

The Bible doesn't say that God lit the stars, then the light from the stars made it's way here. The Bible says that God made the light, then He made the Sun, moon and stars.
The universe, the earth, Adam... they were all made aged. On the day God made Adam, he did not look one day old.....
BTW - The stars are really millions of light years away, and in the week of creation, each day was a 24 hour day.

You can break the topic down to basic language.Compare a T.V. satellite signal to a cable signal. The satellite signal should be about a second or two behind the cable signal on the east coast. The light reaching here from that star is like the signal from your dish.It takes time to travel here.Hence the question you asked.look at the word cosmos, wild dude, wild.

Who says it is? The Universe is billions of years old. The creative days described in the book of Genesis were just in reference to prepping the Earth for man.

Good question. Maybe God designed the universe to look old. Since it would take a million years to see it.
