Yes, I believe the Bible's definition of Hell, which is not the "popular" definition of Hell. The Bible tells us that Hell will not exist until the end of the Millennium, at which point the wicked unsaved of all ages will be resurrected to judgment. At that point, fire will come down from Heaven and consume them. They will not be tortured forever. They will be totally burned up, never to exist again.
The doctrine of an eternally burning Hell that exists right now with a red devil turning people with a pitchfork does not come from scripture, but from ancient Greek and Roman mythology. It was handed down to the Catholic Church, who handed it down to the Protestants. This doctrine has probably done more to drive people away from Christianity than anything else.
Some people like to use scripture passages that speak of an "eternal fire" to describe Hellfire, but they fail to read what the rest of the Bible says on the subject. "Eternal fire" was also used to describe the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Are S & G still burning today? Of course not! You can go to the Holy Land and see for yourself - they are totally burnt to a crisp. But they will never rise again. That is what "eternal fire" means. The EFFECTS are eternal. The people who are burned in Hell are permanently destroyed. To believe that they go on living in Hell is to believe that sin is stronger than God! The Bible says that "the wages of sin is DEATH" - not "eternal life" in Hell! The only ones who receive eternal life of ANY kind are the saved who go to Heaven.

Whether anyone does or doesn't, it's there and for the most part, I think most people do believe it. The trick is the convolutions people go through playing the law of averages of how long they've got against not showing naked terror that often surfaces in life threatening situations.

To better understand the subject of hell, you have to consider where the word comes from.

The Hebrew word Sheol is translated "hell" in english.
The Greek word Hades also is translated Hell.

Sheol literally means grave. Hades means the place of the dead.

Ecclesisastes 9:5 says that the dead are concious of nothing at all. So hell is not a place of troment, that is a lie created by men to scare people into religion, as well as a pagan belief.

Hell is the grave, and nothing more. Since the dead have no conscious existence, hell cannot be a literal place of torment wher the wicked suffer after death.

The Bible aslo tells us that he who has died has been aquitted of his sins (Romans 6:23) and Psalm 146:4 say that the thoughts of a person who dies perishes with them. so you are unable to be tortured if you are conscious of nothing. When yo die , your sins are paid for, and it would be unjust to punish someone for crimes that they have paid for. The teaching of hellfire is contrary to God's inspired word and teachings.

The Bible writer Luke says that "Neither was[Jesus] forsaken in Hades[Hell, King James Version] nor did his flesh see corruption." (Acts 2:31) Where was the hell that Jesus went?
The Apostle Paul stated "I handed on to you... that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was BURIED, yes, that he has been raised up the third day according to the scriptures." (1 Corinthians 15:3,4) So Jesus was in hell, the grave, but was not abandoned there, for he was raised up on the third day, he was ressurected.

Also consider Job, who suffered great torment here on earth.
Wishing to escape his suffering he pleaded: "Who will grant me this, that thou mayest protect me in hell (Sheol), and hide me till thy wrath pass?" Job 14:13, Douay Version) It is unreasonable to think that Job would pray to go to a fiery hot place for protection. To Job, who knew the truth about hell, it was simply the grave, where his suffering would end. The Bible hell, then, is the common grave of mankind where both good and bad people go when they die.

Hell is translated from the greek and heberw words hades and sheol, and is not a literal place, but the common grave of mankind where all dead people go.

Yes, Jesus talked about hell and hell is in the bible quit often. He also talked about heaven. Here is what our Catholic faith tells us a about hell. God Bless!

1035 The teaching of the Church affirms the existence of hell and its eternity. Immediately after death the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin descend into hell, where they suffer the punishments of hell, "eternal fire." The chief punishment of hell is eternal separation from God, in whom alone man can possess the life and happiness for which he was created and for which he longs

i've had different opinions on this over the years. i don't think there is one in the sense that it's a large dungeon where people are chained and burned for eternity.

I think there's a place that bad people will go when God judges them. BUT I like to believe that GOD loves everyone so much and gives us all opportunities to amend and make things right. I like the idea of purgatory.
