BEFORE police continue a "fresh pursuit" across jurisdictional boundries, which include state lines, they must consider at least two requirements.

Is the pursuit causing a issue of safety to others on the roadway.

Is the purpose of the pursuit to capture a suspect involved in a FELONY offense.

There are policies in effect, especially those agencies with jurisdictions bordered by state lines, that dictate whether we will pursue across a state line. However, as the attorney above stated...just because you cross a jurisdictional boundry...does not necessarily stop a pursuit!

Best wishes!

They would contact the police in the next state before the criminal has time to cross the line, get permission to continue the chase, at which time the police in that state would be prepared to join the chase at the state line.

The police would get permission throughout the time of or after the chase to enter the different state. they might nonetheless have jurisdiction to chase because the chase grow to be already occurring. in the adventure that they needed to, they could bypass u . s . strains if the country grow to be keen besides the undeniable fact that it is not going the police would bypass that some distance. There will be arrangements in the previous they crossed into yet another u . s ..

There are some departments that had multiple federal jurisdiction so therefore we could pursue over state lines. The Field commander would make the call. felony or traffic made no difference. we could pursue either. Fresh pursuit has nothing to do with it. most department have hard and fast guidelines some will not allow a pursuit to cross state line even for a known felon.

They can. This is the law of "fresh pursuit." A police officer in active chase of a suspect does not have to stop at the state line.
