Hey Tony M,
The GENFORUM site listed below is specific to the MINER surname, that should help you hook up with people interested in the MINER name. There were 1700 messages at this site, chances are that some of them are distant cousins.
You will have to strike up conversations, or search existing conversations, but you should find some really advanced insight there.
Of 353 entries in LDS Family Search, some are from New York too. Look there and try searching different ways (with first name, without, specify state, and don't specify, etc.).
Some additional sites found using Yahoo Search "MINER FAMILY GENEALOGY", try this too!

Just a couple more sources for you to try-
World Connect family trees-I put Miner in the search engine and then did advanced search with New York state as place of birth-there are over 2000 entries--
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi
If you have first names or a more specific place name, you'll be able to narrow your search even more.
Once you know what county in NY they came from, go the heritagequest online. I can't give you a direct url, because HQ is accessed via your public library. But it is a very useful tool, because it has a wonderful collection of old genealogies and county histories. Put "Miner" in the search engine for names; then try the county for places. You may find quite a bit there. Next, use the search engine at HQ to find your Miner relatives in the US Census
Good luck!

The man usually makes the first move. Even if she’s interested in you, the most she’s likely to do is to stand near you or make eye contact a couple times to encourage you to approach her. Read here https://tr.im/pPgWD
Once you see her, don’t hesitate. 10 minutes from now she might not be there or another guy might have beaten you to the punch. Plus, women can tell when you’re working up the courage to approach. Shyness might be endearing in movies and romance novels, but it doesn’t work in the real world. Approach right away, even if you don’t know what you’re going to say
