put mayonnaise in her hair, wrap it in saran wrap and let it sit for a while. i used rid when i got lice, and different shampoos, and in the end that was the only thing that killed it.

Combing is the easiest way. It may be boring but it works.

Comb first thing in the morning to remove any lice that have hatched overnight and then again when they've arrived back from school. This will pick up any lice they may have picked up during the day.

Do this for a few days and you'll see the number of lice dropping. (combing over a basin will allow you to see how many have been dislodged). Once you're only finding a one or two just do it after school.

If you're finding none in the morning but some in the afternoon comb through then your child is being reinfected via school. You'll need to do a daily comb through until the re-investation stops.

Some people used conditioner etc to help the comb through the hair. You don't need too. Just give the hair a brush first and it will get rid of the tangles.

I'm afraid there's no quick solution. Even after they've all gone try and do a weekly comb so you can spot any signs of the little horrors returning.

You gotta get rid of ALL of the nits or it will keep coming back

If you've done the traditional lice treatement of the rid and combing then you have a start. If not then to a rid treatment and comb comb comb. THEN - dry the hair with a fairly hot (though don't wanna burn the scalp) hairdryer. Then douse the hair with white vinegar - and let it sit - maybe in a shower cap for a least 30 min to an hour. This will break down the glue in the nits. remove shower cap and apply olive oil (breaks down lice exosketeton and makes hair easier to comb through)and sit and comb all of the remaining nits and lice out. It 's a long, labour intensive process. (and yes - the vinegar will irritate any open sores on the head, but it's worth it)
On the other hand, you can shave her head and that will solve it too - but i doubt any girl would go for that.

But let’s begin by being realistic.

The reality is that right now, literally billions of head lice exist. They’ll always be present and their presence is perfectly normal. Kids will bump heads with others who have head lice and the lice will migrate to your child’s head and there’s not much you can do about that.

Unlike other types of insects, head lice cannot be repelled. That’s because head lice are not capable of detecting children from a distance. But what you can do is make life difficult for head lice if they decide to take a visit to your child’s head.

When given the opportunity, head lice will migrate to whichever head is most accessible. Once they arrive, they then have to determine whether or not the head is a suitable source of food and shelter. Since lice feed only on human blood, they need human heads. Ending up on any other surface means almost certain death.

Now here’s how you can be clever.

Why not disguise the smell of your child’s head so that the scent confuses head lice?

Adding a new smell to your child’s head can trick a head louse into thinking it’s not sitting atop a heaping pile of food. Unless the head tastes and smells like a source of food, head lice simply won’t be interested in sticking around.

The lice that do arrive might wander atop your child’s head for a few days but they’re not going to put down any roots nor lay any eggs. Therefore, it’s unlikely your child will get more lice. If you do find any, you’ll just throw them out.

You’ll accomplish all this without medication or poisons, too. That’s because all you’re doing is confusing lice which is keeping them from using your child’s head as their next meal. There’s no guarantee you’ll never again see a louse on your child’s head, but those that do end up there will be wandering aimlessly, not feeding and breeding.

So where are we at right now?

You’ve learned that NITMIX is a simple-to-use pleasant treatment for head lice that works by harvesting lice from the hair without poisoning them or your child. And you’ve learned that thousands of families have already used NITMIX with success.

You’ve also learned that once your child’s head is lice-free, you can keep on detracting new visitors. By doing so, you’ll save yourself a lot of work and a lot of heartache. And if ever you do find unwelcome visitors trying to play house on your child’s head, you’ll know just what to do and why you should be doing it.

Isn’t it time head lice become the type of problem they’re supposed to be one that’s mildly disruptive on occasion but doesn’t cause any more disruption than a cough or cold?

My children constantly are exposed to them (and myself) from family members. I finally got so sick of combing and picking and spraying that I found a couple of things that seemed to have worked for a good month now. The bugs that they get are the "superbugs"l. These pests aren't fazed by Nix or Rid, so it's only hurting my kids to use that stuff. I found that first using Desonex Xtra Strength like a lice treatment (leave on for 15 mins. in the bath) works. Then you use a good conditioner and let that sit on a little while. Comb out the child's hair with lice comb. Then in a couple of days or the next bath time, buy a bottle of baby shampoo. (the regular kind) and a bottle of tea tree oil. Ask your local pharmacy for the tea tree oil. Put about four or five DROPS of the oil directly into the shampoo bottle and shake well. Every time you bathe the child apply and leave in the hair for a few minutes (like while they play) then rinse and use a stay in conditioner to comb out the hair. If after a few days the bugs aren't gone follow up with Desonex again once a week, like you would with Nix or something. I do the same for myself except use the oil in regular shampoo. I haven't seen any bugs on my children's hair in weeks. We also had a breakout in their daycare a while back and neither child got anything.!! I didn't even wash or spray my house or bedding when their cousins came to stay (whom have the pests). I just took straight oil and leave on condtioner and rubbed it through their hair. They didn't get a thing from the cousins or from staying at their house once.

It is time consuming but even if you think you are picking it all out in under regular lighting chances are you are missing alot. Also my friend is a pharmacist and suggested Tea Tree oil to possible help prevent and ponytails for girls.. Hang in there.. Make sure you are following directions about not giving stuff animals and other unwashable items back for 6 weeks.. Keep in trash bags. Vacumm and spray with home sprays. All the best. Dawn

Tea tree oil. You can do a treatment with that every day without concern when you shampoo. Everytime you wash clothes, add Borax and tea tree. If you can find it, put diamatous earth on the mattress and pillows. That's kill the eggs and larva. If you can't, wrap 'em in plastic. And don't forget the outerwear!

The old treatment used to be shaving the head. By the time it grows back, the bugs are all dead everywhere. But most don't use that method anymore..

I kno how disgusting this is gonna sound but u need to put mayonnaise in your hair and but it in saran wrap for like 20 or 30 min. Then you need to go and get one of those metal comb things that kind hurts your head. Then you can just comb the lice out with that comb. The reason mayonnaise works so good is bc it makes your hair really greasy and the lice cant cling to your hair. This way its easier to comb it out.

Dont loose your patience with your daughter, she must feel awful and be in alot of pain.
Another way is to use olive oil in your childs hair, it has less chance of smelling rotten if it gets warm too. You have to clean your entire house, all the bedding and clothes. If you have any animals they too may be infected.
There are spray treatments that can be purchased over the counter. spray everything and anything you can think of that her hair has touched. To include cars, toys, and carpets ... well you get the idea. In addition to all that a special comb that will take care of the nicks and eggs is essential. Take your time and good luck.
