Interestingly, there are two eye conditions that can alert a doctor that a patient may have cholesterol problems. The first is called arcus senilis, which refers to a thin, white line circling the edge of the cornea. The whiteness of the line is due to the deposition of cholesterol and fat in the eye. While the condition is most often seen in older people, if it is seen in a younger patient, blood tests for elevated cholesterol levels must be performed as soon as possible.

The second is called a Hollenhorst plaque, which is a piece of cholesterol that has broken off from a cholesterol deposit elsewhere in the body and lodged in the blood vessels of the retina. When an ophthalmologist identifies this plaque, it is very important to have a complete medical exam, including a blood cholesterol test and an ultrasound of the heart and carotid arteries to check for cholesterol deposits. Although it is possible for people with Hollenhorst plaque to have normal cholesterol levels, it is often a sign of a serious cholesterol problem.

Dont worry too much but do arrange a cholesterol check if you have not already done so.
