If she's a puppy, then she's just going through puppyhood. If she's older, it's because of lack of training and use of the word "NO" when she's doing it.

And no - You should NOT slap her nose!

A chihuahua is like a baby... their mouth is one of the major ways they experience the world. An easy way to DIVERT HER ATTENTION is to have chew toys readily available and when she bites you or opens her mouth... stick the toy in there... and continue play. Do not use your hands to play with her mouth/face; this teaches her hands are chew toys. If she does nip and bite... take the chew toy and encourage her to bite on it instead. Make sure you are not sending her mixed messages by sometimes letting it be okay to bite your hands. If you want to play... use object play (toy) until she knows hand biting must be tempered.

:o)

You need to teach bite inhibition. When your pup bites you "yelp" and cross your arms letting the pup no playtime is over when she bites. Also keep a chew toy handy to redirect her to immediately. It will take time and lots of patience. Good luck. You never need to hit or "pop" your pup while teaching it.

sounds familiar, ever time she bites or nips at you say no firmly while holding her mouth closed and then put one of her toys in her mouth so that she will soon realize that every time she bites you it hurts her and when she bites and chews on her town toys it doesn't hurt. Eventually she will get the picture.

She is a pup and if you dont teach her now at the start she will turn out horrible. Never slap her nose, try a deep loud NO or blow on her face.

What I did when my dog was a puppy was wait for him to bite me then snap his mouth closed on this own tongue and make a negative sound or use "no". He tried it a few times and that was it!!
