I'd recommend 10W30 with an SL or SJ API rating. Change oil and filter every 3,000-5,000 miles depending on driving conditions.

Hmmm, I like the wannabe a mechanic who said that synthetic oil will eat the dirt off your seals. Doesn't make since. I have a '92 Ford Explorer still. After the first two years, I started using synthetic oil. My engine has like 230.000 miles on it. Yes I have replaced the valve cover gasket and the oil pan gasket for leak problems only once. But that is normal with ANY vehicle. Like the guy that died from smoking and he is 95 years old. Duh, people do not look at the age.
Now what you do is to drive your vehicle with the gas topped off twice in a row to get an accurate MPG reading. Then get your oil change with synthetic oil. Do it yourself though. If you go to jiffy lube or one of those cheap oil changer places, tell them you want to see the oil bottles first and make sure the seal is not broken and make sure you watch them use it. Some places have been know to use the real oil on one customer and then save the bottle put the cheap oil in. Then when they pour it in, you see the bottle and think you are getting the good stuff. Wrong. Check the seal. I know cuz it happened to me. I made the sorry sack of mechanic at this quick lube to pour out the old oil and get bottles without the seal broken. I told him, I was not that stupid.
Anyway, after 1000 miles driving take another MPG check. The difference and price of gas will make up for the price of the oil Also, like regular oil is every 3 months, whereas with synthetic oil is is every 6 months. But the catch is that regular oil breaks down after 12000 miles and synthetic after 60,000 miles. Knowing this, I change my oil filter every two or three months and change the oil every year. You see the oil filter filters out the microscopic metal particles in the engine which is the cause for engine breakdown. You read enough car magazines you will learn this. I first read about this in Car and Driver mag about 1984,I think. And it did work. But I tell everyone to do the 6 months recommended oil change with synthetic. I just do it my way.
Tip if you can get some small magnets and stick them inside the oil pan. They will catch any small iron in them. It helps New cars do this in the transmission pan now. If you do not it does not matter.
Also buy the Haynes Automotive Repail manual for your vehicle at Auto Zone or any auto parts store.

do not use synthetic oil. it will remove dirt off seals and cause engine to leak. look on oil cap for the proper weight & don't buy cheap oil.
