I have had my cocker spaniel puppy for 2 months now he was house trained very quickly, after about 2 weeks.
Just recently he has started messing in the house which is not like him at all.
Does anyone have any ideas why he could be doing this.
He is 6 months old.

Sounds like he is making sure that everyone knows that this is his house. Make sure that you take him out regularly and reward him for going outside. Puppy pads just prolong potty training because they teach the dog to go potty on the pad in the house, so if he goes in the house he thinks that it is OK. Never hit him or rub his nose in it that only makes him think that going potty is a bad thing. Instead take him outside and reward him for going where he is supposed to. At Petco they have a doggy doorbell. It looks like a paw print that they step on and it chimes to let you know that they need to go outside, if you purchase it $21.00 i think to let him know what to do step on it everytime you go outside until he learns to do it by himself. /another tip is to always take him to the same area everytime you go out to go potty. Good luck.

Puppies usually begin to wee on the carpet more often once they reach six months.
Also, make sure that there is always an open route to his weeing area, or possibly, change that area... he may have experienced something scary in that area and does not wish to go back to that particular place. Feed him less water and try and train him once again, he may have forgotten.

Afterall, Cocker Spaniels are a bit dopey!

Louise I am having the same problem my chihuahua is 6 months old, he will go outside and do wee then he will run inside and then I will find he has done poos on the doormat! but I just tell him No show him it and keep persevering.

Babies can do the same thing just when you think you have got the potty training licked they go back over again, Just be patient it will come . But clean where he has been, make up a solution of white vinegar and water with a little bit of carpet cleaner and use that to clean where he has been, take him outside after he has eaten and wait to see if he does it if he does make a big fuss of him, it will come don't worry.

My little so and so has started to mark his territory after my son visited us with his dog, so I'm having to watch him shout loudly to distract him and put him outside I hope I can stop him I don't want to get him snipped.

Have you tried puppy pads? They are square pads which allow the puppy to wee in the house on the pad without making a mess. Great for puppies who are trained. This way, they are waiting for you to come home to let them out and aren't weeing on something they shouldn't. My sister and a friend have puppies who use these. They are effective. Good luck.

Has something changed in the house, are you away longer, brought another pet, a new baby, are you ignoring the signs or ignoring him. If there is nothing, go back to training him or take him to a vet (he may have an infection)

Put the puppy's noes to the pee spot and say no, no and then smack it but not to hard, that is what I did with my puppy's and it worked, I also used the pee pads that you leave on the floor and when he/or she uses it reward the puppy. Also encourage the puppy to go by the door when wanting to go to the bathroom.

He misses you when your gone. Put a shirt or something on the floor for him so he can smell your scent. He will eventually overcome his little problem.
