When I was taught to make rice you have a rule of thumb.Rinse the rice and then put water in the pot,to measure the water level use your thumb.Put the tip of your thumb on the top of the rice when the water reaches your knuckle(about an inch) that is plenty.Put the salt in it and cook.I've used this method for 41 years..I passed it down to my family...

well, I add enough rice so that when I stick my finger in the rice cooker (above the rice). The water above the rice almost reaches the knuckle. My BF taught me this and my rice comes out right now....

If it's instant rice...you use equal parts. If it's long cooked white rice, use twice the water as rice. If it's long cooked brown rice, it's twice the water as rice plus one tablespoon of water per cup of rice. (2 cups of brown rice = 4 cups water + 2 tablespoons water).

It's always two to one (water to rice) for regular (not instant) rice. If you're going to stir-fry the rice and want it less sticky, use a little bit less water.
