I've only attended weddings conducted by ministers, priests, someone that believes in God. Can any Tom, Dick and Harry marry atheists or is it done by the Justice of the Peace or who does it?

I'm not an atheist either but it's probably done through the courts, justices and officials that have authority to conduct such an event.

Well, to be recognized by the STATE, which after all administers marriage rights, a marriage needs to documented and registered with the right agencies. I have not seen a lot of regulations about who can perform the ceremony for it to be considered legal, as long as the right paperwork is completed! :o)

with a judge of the state..... i mean in order to get legally married... even if you are religious... you need to get married trough the courts... if you want to get married trough your religion then thats when you go to the church... the church doesnt make your wedding legal.
