Afghanistan was attacked because at the time the Taliban were accused of sheltering Al Qu'ida and (possibly) Bin Laden. The reason the US and the UK are still there is that they made a hash of it - they sent far fewer troops than were needed so the Taliban have been allowed to regroup. As it stands at the moment there are more police officers in Manhatten than allied troops in the whole of Afghanistan. Part of the reason is that Bush and his cronies were so fixated on invading Iraq (who had nothing to do with 9/11, and didn't have any WMDs) that they didn't commit enough resources to go after a regime where there is evidence that they had involvment in 9/11 (although not as much as Saudi Arabia - but we can't bomb our oil supply...)

Afghanistan has nothing to do with the WMD issue it has everything to do with Osama bin laden and the Taliban. This is where 9/11 started from. We are now preventing the Taliban from making a comeback here. The problem is the one we have in Iraq Tribalism too many warlords and tribes and they love to grow and sell poppies for opium and other drugs. This money then goes to various organizations including terrorist organizations like the Taliban and Al qaeda. Our troop level here is small most of the troops here belong to NATO.

The invasion of Afghanistan had nothing to do with WMD's. The whole thing was revenge against Al Qaida and the people that gave them refuge the Taliban. We would not have gone in if the Taliban had turned in the people that we asked them for. Is reality so ignored that recent history is forgotten in a matter of a few years?

We never were IN Afghanistan because of WMD! OMG! We were in Afghanistan because of Osama Bin Ladan and what HE and his cronies did on 9/11! Saddam was not involved in 9/11, nor was Saddam trying to get WMD from 1991 on. THAT has been proved. What still has yet to happen is to either find OBL body or capture him, but I doubt that Bush wants this to happen since he is family friends.

Oh, and another thing, how in the he** do you know that this person is a liberal? Sounds an awful like a neocon to me!

Because of the Taliban. We drove them from the country but they are back.
The problem with the Taliban is that they are supplying arms to Iraqi & harboring those fanatics that are causing problems in Iraq. The people of Afghanistan do not want the Taliban in their country. They are a vicious sect of people that are trying to rule a country that wants self rule, to which they have a right. That is the only reason we are there. We don't want to take them over, Russia tried for 10 yrs to do that & were driven out, we are not going to make that mistake.

Along with nuclear warheads, I also consider suicide bombers as weapon of mass destruction. Man up, support and FIGHT for your country that allows you to live under its freedom and protection; or better yet, move to Afganisnistan.

Because Afghanistan was a pretext for Iraq. If we withdraw from Afghanistan, it would expose the Iraq war for what it is... unnecessary.
