most color copiers operate as if there were 3 copiers in one: one for red, one for green and one for blue. the different colors are scanned using filters. if you are talking about a real photocopier, this is more akin to taking a photograph and producing a print. if you would like a more detailed analysis of copier systems, try contacting the manufacturers.
