I feed my Chihuahua the recommended amount per day but he still walks around with his head down scrounging for food all day, and I mean literally all day. He does this inside the house, and I cannot even take him for walks for him looking for food. He will eat anything that he can chew, from hair to toilet tissue. Why does he do this? He is also licks things all the time.

Most dogs will try and eat constantly. Ours are always searching for food.

Get him some toys to keep him busy and stop him from chewing in the day, he may be looking simply for something to chew so chew-toys are good, along with rope toys and soft toys. Things to keep him occupied. Maybe keep some hidden away and some not and alternate with them so he doesn't get bored with having the same toys the whole time.

The other suggestion I would give is if you give him his food once a day (make sure you give it same time each day), how about splitting it and giving him half in the morning and half in the evening. This way he doesn't have to wait a whole 24 hours for his next meal. Still give him the exact right ammount but split it in two. This helped with our old dog.

Overall I wouldn't worry about it, It's likely a usually doggy thing. One program I watched called dogs 'a life support system for a stomach'! :) If you are really concerned, getting him checked over at a vet, or ask the vet the next time you have to make a visit.

most dogs are like that ...just like us ,the only difference is we can stop eating if we want to but dogs can't so it's up to you to control him make sure he doesn't gain weght ,if there's food we eat it, if u take something away from us were looking for it same things with dogs. I have a Lhasa Apso and I'm lucky that I can leave food out 24/7 and she will not eat it all ,my friend has a Chihuahua and everytime they visit she goes crazy on my dogs food. My dog soesn't mind . Olso keep in mind that dogs are very aware and very good on trying to make you feel sorry ,my pooch does that when I take her to the vet ...she fakes the cry ,it took me a while 'till I realized what she's doing :)
**** Also try giving him toys to play with *****

I'm sure there's better answers out there ,this is just my personal experience ,hope it helps .

he might be doing this because of something medical but i would just buy a scoop and give him one in the morning noon and night also you could be feeding a les staisfiying brad of dog food purina one is good so is any natrual food keep in mind that dogs do get full so they will quit eating when they are not hungry so i would just listen to your dog when you feed him insted of the bag cause all dogs are diffrent. also the Rubber Kong Dog Toys are great if you get a small one and fill it with his fav treats he will play with that all day long but the big thing is to just up his food and water is also a big thing if the licks cups then he needs more water.

dogs take information in through their mouths, jst like babies. they dont have fingers to hold things so it goes into the mouth. their nose are much more sensative than a humans. smelling is another way to understand things. you may want to give him safe things to chew and get to. you dont want to have an expensive vet bill from all the other things he's found.

Dogs are landsharks, they generally like to eat regardless of whether or not they're hungry.
