personally, i am. when i used to work in retail i would get them often and i think it's offensive for the fact that you don't know that person's beliefs or what's going on in their life and to push your beliefs on them and tell them "god bless you" is presumptious.

It is extremely offensive.

Not really. I've gotten some great ones over the years that my husband and I keep so we can pull them out at parties and show them to our friends. They're great for a laugh. One was a local church's Easter, drive-through Crucifixion. (I'm not kidding) The other shows pictures of the leaders of one of the local mega churches and the photos are scary. The guy who's the youth leader looks like he should be in the sex offender database.

ADDED: You know - I have noticed a strong influx of Christian oriented mail and invites coming to my house in the last 4 years. That's a relatively new phenomena for me.

If it comes from a stranger, I really don't mind. I thank them for their concern then hand it back and suggest that they give it to someone who will read it. I'm polite and usually they will be polite in return.

If it comes from someone who knows me (and is aware of the religion that I practice), then I find it very offensive. If we already know each other, then we are aware of each of our religious views. Since I already know about their views, I don't need a pamphlet describing them. Then I simply hand it back and remind them that they know that I am happy with my religion. The next time they do it, I am less polite and more firm. If they keep doing it, I assume that they have no respect for me and end the relationship if possible. If that isn't possible, I simply avoid them just as I would avoid any other rude person who has no respect for me.

This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come. Jesus also instructed his followers "Go...and make disciples of people of all the nations- Matt.24:14; 28:19
When Jesus sent out his early disciples he directed them to go to the homes of the people. (Matt.10:7, 11-13) The apostle Paul said regarding his ministry:" I did not hold back from telling you any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching you publicly and from house to house"-Acts 20:20,21; see also Acts 5:42

So no I would not be insulted...

To me this is like saying you are insulted that Mc Donalds added chicken strips to the menu, nuggets were fine for you. You are insulted that CBS added the show the class to their line up, How I Met Your Mother is your favorite show, you are not changing your mind, so they should just agree to show that 24 hours a day and quit trying to tempt you. Or publishing companies should realize you don't like romances and quit putting them on display in so many stores.

Seriously, get over it. If you are not interested, don't read it. Throw it away. They are just offering you an oppourtunity and a choice. You take it from there.

Are you offended when someone says God Bless You when you sneeze. Non believers even say that sometimes out of habit. It is a Christian way of saying, happy blessings, best wishes, wishing you the best of life. This is offensive?

I think sometimes people need to realize there are bigger problems in the world then people wishing you well, even if you don't speak the same language.

Just my opinion. I would say God bless you, but since I am aware of your feelings on this matter I will just say Good Luck and have a nice day.

I'm not insulted by the pamphlet per se. I'm insulted when I look and realize that its written by someone who has absolutely no formal education in the area.

I'm going to wager my soul on the words of a person like that?

I think not.

I agree with you. I tend to get quite annoyed when someone just walks up to me and hands me a religious pamphlet, because I am not in any sense religious and do not believe in God. If they want to hand out pamphlets and stuff, they should just set up a table and let people choose to grab one, not attack them. When I refused to take one once (politely), the man started screaming at me that I was going to burn in hell and stuff. I'm not against religion or anything, but I hate it when people start to push it on me.

I work in retail and I totally agree with you. I once got really ticked off when I was sitting in my car in the parking lot of my workplace. My windows were rolled up, because I didn't want visitors. I suddenly saw movement out of the corner of my eye and I was startled. When I turned to see what it was, a woman approached me and apologized for startling me. She then began asking me if I wanted a religious pamphlet. I then yelled at her, and I didn't feel the least bit guilty, because not only did she offend me by trying to give me religious pamphlet, but she also intruded upon my personal space by approaching my car.

Why? Do you normally get upset when someone hands you a advertising brochure about a new restaurant or a shoe sale? Then why get bent out of shape about a pamphlet advertising a new church or someones religion?

Your reaction seems illogical.

Not in the least. I'm a Humanist, so I firmly believe in freedom of religion and freedom of expression. I'm always interested in gaining a better understanding of how my fellow human beings think. I can always recycle the paper later, if it turns out to be something I'm not interested in keeping.

"Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance." ~ Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 18.

Yeah it annoys me somewhat. Especially when i try to tell them that I'm Pagan and therefore not interested. then they start ranting at me about how I'm going to Hell and my Goddess won't save me....etc..etc..
And I've noticed that a lot of people are coming TO MY HOUSE with this crap now! One guy was flabbergasted that I refused to even take his phamplet! Then he tried to tell me that the myths of my religion are false. He didn't like it when I asked him "How do you know that yours aren't false?" He left real quick then.
