I ask, because I know that doctors will sometimes advise their patients to take more than the amount printed on the bottle. My headache hasn't gone away with three yet, and I took them about an hour ago.

You can take 2 extra strength every 4 hours. If you were taking Tylenol you could take it every 4 hours and asprin every 4 hours opposite Tylenol(T at 2, A at 4, T at 6, A at 8)Excedrin is asprin, acetaminaphen(Tylenol) and caffeine. You can overdose on either Tylenol or asprin, but the lethal level of Tylenol is closer to the therapeutic dose.

The directions say people over 12, take 2 Excedrin every 6 hours not to exceed 8 in 24 hours.

I have been taking Excedrin for years. I take the amount according to the pain I have. If it is a severe pain, I will take up to 4 tablets every 4 hours until the headache is gone. This normally will take a maximum of 8 hours.

I would say my average is 3 tablets every 4 hours. That normally takes care of my pain.

I am not encouraging you to take more than the directions say, I merely am telling you what I do. I also take a little something to eat, so the Excedrin doesn't hurt my stomach.

I hope this helps, pain is no good!

God Bless You :)

Go to their website and look at the dosage chart. http://www.excedrin.com/products/index.shtml

The bottle will also indicate how many you can take and at what intervals, and how many is too many. It will usually say, "DO NOT EXCEED __ DOSES EVERY 24 HOURS"
