Because some people don't believe in any "afterlife". They think that when you die...that's it, and nothing happens. No debt to pay, no sins to answer for. Nothing. They may regret it one day...because they don't KNOW and no one KNOWS exactly what happens when you die. I had rather live as if there were a GOD and AFTERLIFE and die only to find out there WASN'T...than to live as if there WASN'T a God or Afterlife, only to die and find out there WAS !!! Now...wouldn't that be a huge regret... if someone lived so carelessly and full of sin because they just couldn't believe in God and an Afterlife, but died and learned that there really is a God and that we do have to answer for our lives on earth ??? I believe. I try to do my best and when I am weak, I ask for forgiveness and try to learn from my mistakes and I strive to do better in the future. No one's perfect and we all give in to temptation and sin, but hopefully we realize this and try to please God while we're living here on

SOMETHING I HAVE NOTICED...from the non-believers answering here : You all seem to be bitter and unhappy individuals when speaking of this topic. Why are you so "ill" about it and maybe it's your lack of faith in a Creator ? Maybe it's Satan working in your lives ? Everybody has grouchy moments, but just about all Atheists that I've read answers from on my questions and other people's questions...the non-believers are grouchy and sometimes mean and arrogant, rude. Why do you suppose that is ? Not because of us believers...but because of your non-belief, is what I think. Your lack of spirituality.

As you've said quite correctly, we don't know what comes after death - if anything. Many people don't believe in God. I consider myself non-religious, still I respect the diverse religions. Many people need their specific religion and rely upon whatever they are taught about the "next dimension", if I may call it that way. This has to do with the general fear of death. People are usually most afraid of things they don't know. Faith of whatever kind can help relieve this fear. However, some people rely upon reason instead of faith when dealing with this issue. Of course, they still should strive to live their lives up to their potential, but if some people decide not to do that, it is their own business. I mean, although I don't believe, I still want to be able to look back and say, well, I've performed fine. But as I said - everyone as they may.

What does believing in an afterlife or not believing in an afterlife have to do with morality?

You're saying, basically, that if God is real, it's better to believe than disbelieve, and if God isn't real, then we're all equal.

But those aren't the only two options, are they?

What if Odin's real? What if Osirus is real? What if some deity that no human has ever thought of is real? What if it's the deists who are right?

So the whole thing falls apart.

The world would be horrifically boring without conflicts. There would be no driving force to get out of bed in the morning.

When's the last time you went to a movie where every character was happy the entire time and there were no problems?

As bad as it sounds, evil and misfortune are necessary for life to be worth living. Utopias don't work.

just because people dont believe in an afterlife doesnt mean they dont value life. in fact it makes sense for you to think the opposite, those that live today, thinking that tomorrow could be their last, would value life a lot more, then those who think they are immortal and will live forever in paradise when they die.

id much rather live my life that i KNOW exists worry free, then live this life worrying about being judged when i die, and that may or may not even happen. and im sure not going to waste my precious time on earth worshipping a being that wont even prove himself to us.

You are right, no one is perfect, no not one...
We all are sinners and fall short of the glory of God. The difference here is that a Christian asks for forgiveness and they know they are forgiven... The others who are pure evil through and through are of Satan.... Satans work is never good for anyone and the more he has his clutches in a person they will stop at nothing to hurt others

It would be quite regretful to live carelessly and in a way that is harmful to others.

That is why I don't live that way. I don't need some God story to tell me that would be futile and counterproductive in the only life I will probably ever have.

But thanks for the refresher, Pascal.

You sound just like DesCartes, the mathematician, logician, and sometime ethicist.
Same logical reasoning.
Good luck.
If I'm wrong and you're right, then I will reject any god who has set up such an evil world in the first place and suffer no more than I do upon this earth.
What's the big deal?

NO WAY! You mean like PASCALS WAGER? I'm SOOOOO glad you're here to show us the light!

So... which god to pick from... Out of the 2500+ god's, which one is YOURS? I wouldn't want to follow the WRONG GOD, now would I?

Pascal's wager and "no one can have morals without God", all in one spite-filled package. Neat.
