The Sunday and daily readings in The Catholic Church are the same every day and the same in all locations every where in the world. While the protestant readings differ from the catholic readings and from each other. Thus creating a divided effort. Why not all get on the same page. Especialy since we all believe the bible to be a living rather than a historic document

The Protestant churches do not have the same level of organization that we do. The Methodists, Baptists, Episcopals(Anglicans), Pentecostals, etc. all have different leaders. I think some denominations do not even have bishops and are only organized at the level of a single congregation. It would be nice if we could move closer to reunification of the Church, but that won't happen for a long time. At least they are reading the Bible in church just like we do ( even though some Protestants think we do not). A lot of them include some fun music and other entertainment too. All in all they aren't bad. I just wish fundamentalists would stop saying we are not Christians. I wonder why they do not bash the Orthodox too, but I am glad that they don't.

Whether catholic or protestant, if you wait on the church or pastor to teach you all of the Bible you will never learn all of the Bible. To become a mature Christian you must get into the Bible and read it for youselves. Fifty-two weeks in a year and 365 days of daily readings in a year will not teach you God's word. The same sermons each year from January through December will not get you through the Bible. Once you get into the Bible the pastor's sermon will start to bore you. Jesus didn't say go into all the world and sit on a church pew. Jesus said preach the gospel. For all my youth I was in church at least 3 times a week, but I learned elementary Bible. Serious Bible Study with family members or similar friends is a good way to learn God's word.
Then start reading Christian books and discern the books by the Bible.

Try to find a church where the pastor doesn't preach the same sermon throughout the year. It is really bad when you can almost preach his sermon yourself. This is not good for believers. We must mature in Christ. A lot of people stay baby believers forever.

Readings are *not* the same everywhere and in all places in the Catholic Church. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia:

"The Catholic Church has never maintained a principle of uniformity in rite. Just as there are different local laws in various parts of the Church, whereas certain fundamental laws are obeyed by all, so Catholics in different places have, their own local or national rites; they say prayers and perform ceremonies that have evolved to suit people of the various countries, and are only different expressions of the same fundamental truths."

To a Christian, "getting on the same page" means participating in the same, Apostolic faith. So far as we know, the apostles never taught that every Christian ought to read the same passage of scripture on the same day. They were more concerned with unity than uniformity.

Catholics have a Pope. they suspect that the Virgin Mary ascended into Heaven. they suspect that interior the mass the communion and wine are literally (to them) grew to become into the physique and blood of their Christ. They revere saints. They baptize infants at start. Protestants many times invoke Jesus' call extra many times. Their historic previous is they did no longer like the Pope's means and intensely a number of the instructions that the Pope further to the Catholic faith. of their very beginnings they have been an exceedingly literal translation of Bible with out upload-ons via any priests or holy figures. the single element I constantly enjoyed approximately ye ol' Lutherans became the theory that the Bible would desire to be obtainable in each tongue so as that folk would desire to verify it with out gaining wisdom of Latin. people who think of Catholics are by some ability truly different from "different Christians" have little wisdom of what Catholics have self assurance. many times assuming that "revering" is the comparable as "worshiping".

Well the thing is that you can use the word for specific situations of the congregation. So you can be context specific with your selection of Bible readings/study. So lets say a tornado went through the nearby community and so you will read scritpures of encouragement and promise that God will provide.

Or perhaps the church just celebrated its 20th anniversay or its 1st year anniversary then they could have celebratory and special reading for that service.

Its all about being relevant to what the people are going through.

That is one thing I LOVE about being Catholic! It is so cool that Catholic everywhere in the worlds here the same readings on the same day.

Protestants don't use the same readings becasue they refuse to use our Lectionary. They read whatever the pastor wants them to read, so they don't get the broad exposure to scriptures that we do at Mass- especially if we attend daily Mass, too.

I feel sorry for the Protties!!

They are all different prayer books for different religions. The Catholic Church all uses the same one. Protestants depending on what flavor they are use different places where they get their weekly readings from. I'm from a pentecostal church and it depends on what the pastor is preaching since we don't have a prayer book or hymnal..

Protestants rebelled against the RCC.

Part of that rebellion involved tossing out some scripture, and changing the method for worship. This included the forms of and what the readings are.

If you wanted to get to know a person you ask him/her a lot of questions right?? We to get to know God and his will you need to read more than the same passages in the Bible.

Here is an example I used in my Sunday school class...
If you wanted to know me you would ask me maybe the following questions.

What is your name??
Where are you from??
How old are you??

And if I answered
What is your name?? Peanut butter
Where are you from?? Jelly
How old are you?? Peanut butter

You would not get to know exactly who I am right...well that is why it is important to read the entire Bible, so that we can get to know God and his character.
