Croup can be very dangerous for some children. It is best to keep him home. My son has had it 3 times and each time was on a steriod for 3 days to keep swelling down so he could breathe. No way I would have sent him to school like that. One of the kids in his day care class ended up in the hospital for 2 days from croup-it isn't to be taken lightly.

NO. That's a pretty bad cough that could turn into pneumonia you should take him to the doctor and get him checked out. Anytime my kids got a cough the doctor would ask if it was a whooping cough or croup cough in my opinion not a good thing.

I am going through that right now. My head hurts! Try a saline nasal RINSE (not a spray) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean). I've been doing it at work too. The buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot. The special bottle and salt is about $20. You can do this a often as you like with no bad side effects. You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. So if you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis.

Although Croup itself is not contagious the virus/infection that caused it may be (not everyone is prone to Croup), so I wouldn't recommend sending him. My sons have had Croup and it's miserable and sometimes frightening for them, and worrying for anyone who is caring for them.

Your son should be fine--just give him a note that he has your permission to eat cough drops in class. Don't give him menthol cough drops though because he will get the runs.

KEEP YOUR SICK CHILDREN AT HOME! I hate when lazy parents send their kids to school because they arnt willing to foot the bill for a sitter. IF you can't take care of your kids DONT HAVE THEM.
