Prepackaged bratwurst (and other sausage-type products) is usually fully cooked already (read the package--it will clearly state whether it's fully cooked).
As for grilling them, do as you would for a hot dog: use a very hot grill, and allow the grate to preheat for a little while (like 20 minutes or so). Put the brats on the (uncovered) grill, and let them swell up and get nice grill markings on them...flip them after about 4 minutes per side. Depending on the type of bratwursts you're using, you might want to make a few punctures in the skin, so it won't rupture as it cooks.

Boil them first or they will be raw in the center. After that, grilling is just a matter of scorching the skin for that great grilled taste.

I like the boil-first, then grill method, too. That's how I cook them most of the time.
To be REALLY sure if they are done, you can always use a meat thermometer, and cook them to at least 160 F (beef medium well, to pork well).

I would give them 5 minutes on either side, that would be plenty. Depends on how big they are also.
