I saw a painting of a princess by her throne (either seated or standing in front of it), knighting a man (I saw it online once, and then I saw it displayed on a wall once); I really want to know the name of this picture or where I can buy it! The general colors and style was similar to the following picture:

Any info would be appreciated! :)

This is the painting "The Accolade" but it is not done by Waterhouse, it's done by a fellow Pre-Raphaelite, Edmund Blair Leighton (1853-1922).

A princess can not knight anyone. She does not have the power or authority to do so. A ruling queen can and does bestow knighthood. The copy you saw would have had to have been a very young or very young looking queen for her to have been mistaken for a princess.

If you saw such an image on-line and you are sure it was some Disney-type princess knighting a man then it was probably done by some fantasy site artist, the kind of artists who do dragons and elves and young, beautiful princesses needing rescued.

The only queen I can think of who would have been young enough to appear to look like a 'princess' to you in some older classic painting would be Mary, Queen Of Scots. She had long, flowing red hair and became queen in her late twenties.

The name of the painting is "The Accolade" by Leighton. I have a print of it hanging in my living room.
Leighton, yes, quite right. Mine is in the middle of a bunch of Waterhouse and I tend to forget that.
