I am looking to buy the new GMC Acadia. We have financing in place (will pay with check), no trade-in. How far can the dealer usually go down on the price? The incentives on said vehicle are $500.00 - is that all they can do or are they able to come off the price more? Just want to know if they tell me the truth when saying: "That's the best we can do for you"....yanno?

Hot selling cars are hard to come down in price (NEW). If it's a slow selling model you CAN come down in price but not a whole lot! The car-price-reducing process is MUCH EASIER and POSSIBLE in the "Used Car" business.

I would try reducing it just to begin, at 10% of the asking price.. and rarely do they ever go below the MSRP... only when it's a slow-selling model that they're trying to get rid of.

For example, in FORD don't even try to negotiate the asking price of a Mustang beyond the dealer-incentive offers because those cars sell very fast, and they know that right behind you is someone who WILL pay the asking price.. But if you try to buy an Escort, they MAY be agreeable to price reductions.

If they tell you "that's the best we can do.." Walk away. If they don't call you back, it's impossible.

If there are several GMC dealers in your area, go to each of them, and let them know that you are going to comparrison shop for the best price.

Typically, if you are a hard nose consumer, and the dealer knows that you are going to walk out and go the the competition, especially one who sells the same make, then they are more than willing to drop their pants and sell the vehicle for the unit count.

Let them know that you are not afraid to leave, and are looking for the dealer that gives you the best price, and you will get it.

I've found if you know how to work the negotiating, you can go down at least $2000. And I hate to say it, but honestly women get taken advantage of more. I've noticed car dealers are less likely to try to take me to the cleaners if I look with my husband or dad.

The GMC Acadia is a newly released vehicle... I would not expect much of a discount if I were you.
