have a video cassette of my daughters baby days & half way through somebody has taped cartoons over it !!!!!
Is there anything i can do, is there companys that can rescue the footage or is it lost forever?

It might be possible for a forensic (not necessarily the police labs) laboratory to recover a small part of your lost footage but it would be excruciatingly expensive and quality not guaranteed to be any good.

For all intents and purposes you've lost it. In future always knock out the tab on the back your VHS cassettes for recordings you want to keep.

If you want to secure material on DVD then be sure that you've recorded it onto DVD-R or DVD+R not on any RW disc. Also be sure that you've 'finalised' it.

Sorry to say it's wiped. Break the tabs off any other tapes that you have, to prevent this happening again. Additionally, video tapes will degrade over time, I recommend that you copy them to DVD's before they start to fade.

I'm afraid there's nothing u can do, but try to transfer as many of ur surviving videos to DVD before they decay or are taped over.

its 100% for sure gone. aww that's real sad I feel for you. take the cassette into a lab and ask them to put whats left on a disc for you.
