I am in it right now. Hapkido is a Korean martial art. If you were to think of it in a comparison of another martial art, I would say its a mix of Taekwondo kicking and wrist locks and joint manipulation. Its tons of fun to train and most of the techniques you learn are pretty useful in real life situations. granted you are not always going to know when someone will grab your wrists... but the more you train, the more it becomes natural. Everyone talks about resistance training today.... well hapkido does a lot of it. I love it!

I totally recommend you at least give it a few lessons and see if its for you! its good stuff.

Hapkido is a Korean martial art that employs, striking with grappling techniques. Like somebody mention before it resembles Tae Kwon Do kicks with aikijutsu grappling. My best advise is, go check it out, get e free class, and see if it is what you are looking for. Good luck.

That depends on the nature of your question.

it's nationality is Korean, because it was developed in Korea.

as for the type it has several, because Hapkido can fit into so many catagories.

first of all, it can be classified as a "hard" discipline because it can utilize ANY striking techniques (ie kicking, punching, etc.) as 90% of the other Martial Arts use in their techniques.

it can also be catagorized as a "soft" discipline because it utilizes redirection, circular movement, joint locks, pain compliance, and throws as several other disciplines utilize in their curriculums.

it can fit into many catagories at several different levels of fighting in Martial Arts depending on what you mean.

in many circles, it is considered to be one of the most "complete" Martial Arts to study.
