I'm buying tix for my b/f for the first time and I need to know what are good seats at MIS, is the ticket for the whole weekend? should I buy Pit Passes, etc. What else should I know?

Ok, thanks for the info so far. I need to know more about NASCAR races...is it truly a weekend-long thing? I mean, if I buy a "ticket" what exactly does that get me? Is there more than one "race", e.g. qualifying races beforehand, etc.? I went to both the NASCAR website & MIS website and I'm still lost. I'm new to the "race scene" and I just want to make it a special gift for my b/f (he's turning 40). Pretend like I'm from Venus and need to know EVERYTHING. LOL.

Hello :)

I have been going to MIS since August 2003 and I have had tickets in Turn 1, Start/Finish Line and Turn 4 as well as the infield. To get the full experience, go all weekend and get a campsite right outside of the track. You want to sit about in the middle of the grandstands to get the best view. My personal preference is to get seats in Turn 1, I can see the races of pit road and I can see the entire track from those seats. Pit passes are a must have and you get to talk to the teams, and see lots of cool things and if you are there at the right time and place during Friday or Saturday, you can see drivers.

On a NASCAR Weekend...you will need 3 tickets for the entire weekend. The Friday tickets are typically an ARCA Race and Qualifying and can be bought at the track for $15...I wouldn't worry about getting these ahead of time as they are general admission. The Saturday tickets will either be a Truck Race (if going in June) or the Busch Race (if going in August) These are not general admission and I would advise you to purchase those tickets when purchasing the Sunday tickets, which are the NASCAR Nextel Cup Race Tickets. This is the big race.

The thing that I have found works best as I said was camping outside the track. We will arrive either really early Friday morning or Thursday evening and stay until Monday morning. Traffic is awful at Michigan and the best way to avoid it is to leave Monday morning. You would not believe how fast it clears out Monday morning.

The MIS Site is www.mispeedway.com. I would recommend calling to order everything as the people are very helpful and often can get better seats than what is available online. The phone number to order tickets is 1-800-354-1010.

Just as a word of advice...for the past 3 years, if you go to the August Race, on the Saturday of the Busch Race (before the big race) there is a concert. I can't remember who was there last year, but the concerts wfrom 2003-2005 were Three Doors Down, Cledus T. Judd and Sugarland.

I've only been to a Michigan race once and it was years ago. I had won a trip there on a chartered bus with a bunch of other NASCAR nuts. I can't help you with regards to tickets, etc., but MLB is right about the traffic.

We were on an air conditioned bus in that snail-paced mess. We could see how miserable and impatient some people were getting. But from our perspective there was a funny side to it. We lost count of how many guys we saw getting out of their cars, running behind a tree, and then running back without gaining any ground along the road.

My only advice would be to either camp out or get there extra, EXTRA early. It may be a little inconvenient, but it will be worth it in the long run. Also wear comfortable shoes! There's a lot of walking.

And the tailgate party is a good idea for after the race, because all those vehicles that went in are gonna want to get back out.

Welcome to the world of NASCAR fans. You'll soon learn that actually WE'RE the ones from another planet.

I've been to MIS several times. Good seats are either along the start/finish line (the higher you are, the more of the track you will be able to see) or the pit terrace. If you sit in the pit terrace, the only part of the race you will see are turns 4&1 and the straightaway between them, but you also get a close up view of pit stops, which I personally think is awesome to watch. Pit passes are nice, but the chances of seeing an actual driver are pretty slim. They clear you out before the race starts. But you can walk along the pits and even out to the start/finish line before the race.
Traffic going in/out of the race is a nightmare!! Be prepared to leave early and sit in traffic for a long time. We usually tailgate a few hours after the race and traffic is STILL backed up.
I hope this helps, enjoy the race!!

I went to an august Michigan race two years ago. Almost any seat around the track is good. the best seats are the ones in the grandstands in front of the start finish line. He would probably love pit passes. You will have to buy tickets for each of the different races you want to attend. Make sure you also have a place to stay. there is alot of camping space around the track. if you can make sure you take everything you would need to survive the time in the giant fields around the track.

I always get seats in turn four about midway up. Seem to be the best that I have found so far. The ticket is only for the Nextell cup race. Pit passes are a wonderful bonus.

Check out the Michigan International Speedway web-site they have 3-D seating charts, virtual reality seating. Pretty awesome, it will show you where your seat is and EXACTLY what you will see from your seat then you can choose what ever you think looks good. And I say get them Pit Passes they are $50.00 and worth every penny. Have fun at MIS great place to be!

i go to the michigan race every year and i like sitting in turn 3, because you can see around the whole track. also across from the start finish line is a good view, and yes get pit passes if you can. get to the track early, because there are so many things to see and do there.

Center grandstand, the higher the better...also in the turns - high up of course. You can buy weekend packages, pit passes, etc. I always just got my seat tickets and that's it. And that's just good for the day of the race.

No offense but i would take him to a real race track like Bristol or Darlington. If you do get tickets though, make sure you wake him up after the race is over.
