Yes 40 but that is very theoretical; in practice you may well need a 42 as UK sizes are definitely more generous. In France they seem to want you to feel guilty if you're not stick-thin!!

A woman's UK size 12 is a French size 40.

Size 40 is the conversion equivalent, but do try on, as their sizes do tend to come up "smaller"
