Sailors who are crew on nuclear submarines sometimes are under water for 3 months at a time and therefore receive no exposure from the sun.

As long as you receive all the required vitamins that are naturally received by sunlight exposure you will survive just fine.

There have been some recent studies I have read that talk about light and the brain. I don't have the studies here but going from memory they looked that chemicals released by the brain during times of light and darkness. They found that if the light signals received by the brain didn't match up with the internal clock chemicals would be released at the wrong period of day. For example if you sleep with a light on you are confusing your brain as to what time of day it is, which can lead to things like depression and anxiety. One of the bigger problems that these chemicals can cause when released at the wrong times of day is certain forms of cancer. They found that even sleeping with the TV on in the room can trigger your brain into thinking it is daytime.
So no sunlight can cause problems in mood and problems with vitamin deficiency, but light at the wrong intervals and lack of darkness can lead to severe health problems as well.

No one yet has mentioned the ill effects or positive effects of UV light. Today scientists are saying too much sunlight causes skin cancer and premature wrinkling due to UV lighting. Thus the hotties are using tanning beds. AKA artificial light without the UV. However, if you eliminate all the UV lighting all-together I think your skin can be less healing or growing. Our bodies were designed to need some natural sunlight.

Have you ever noticed those as white as a ghost being a little on the sickly side? Connection? not sure.
