You probably got a W2. It tells how much you made and how much taxes were withheld. If that is all you have for income pickup a copy of Form1040EZ. Look it over. It will ask you for those two facts and give you a place to write your name and address. Beyond that it will ask you to do some simple arithmetic. If the arithmetic daunts you you can mail it to the IRS and they will figure your taxes for you. Then they will send you a refund or a bill.

H&R should be your last resort.

Just do what my daughter (20) and my son (17) did. Since your income was probably not that much, just file online with a company (they used H & R Block) and you will probably get back all that you paid in Federal taxes. You can do it online for free and it is fast and so easy to do. The site will prompt you each step of the way and they are guaranteed to be accurate. If you don't want to pay to have your taxes done, just go to the IRS site and look under "Free File" and they will show you all the companies that will do it for free and what the requirements are...it's that easy!

Get Turbo Tax (I saw it at Costco for about $37). Just enter the info and it prepares the return. It's REALLY easy.

Depending on your income, your parents should claim you. It means much more to them.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER go to H&R Block. They are expensive and incompetent! The do not teach their preparers some of the vital BASICS they need to prepare a return. Right in the textbook it has important areas that are "beyond the scope of this course." Teachers are dumb and teach wrong info. When they don't get enough students with passing grades in their classes, they change the rules to be able to hire more people. They hire people that flunk the final.

File. You could go to h&r or someone else or you could pick up the 1040EZ at the library and fill it out yourself. It should be simple, almost painless, and you'll probably get $ back.

And don't forget to get the state easy form. It usually tracks the fed form. Some states even have a "fill it out for me" box.
