I have a little 1.7 cubic foot refrigerator. I lost my electricity for about 18 hours over the weekend. The items I'm concerned about going bad are some unopened containers of yogurt, cheese, balogna, mustard and parmesan cheese. Do you think I should throw these items out to be on the safe side or will they be O.K.?

If you didn't open your fridge during the time your electricity was out, your cheese should be ok. The mustard is ok to keep as well as the parmesan cheese if it's a container of grated parmesan such as Kraft or Sargento. If it's fresh grated parmesan, toss it out. The yogurt I would toss. And the bologna also if it doesn't feel cold to the touch.

Mustard, Parmesan (powered kind)...you can keep.

I'd throw out the balogna, yogurt, and the usual refrigerated chees that comes in blocks or shredded.

Your foods is no good sorry. I know throwing away food makes you feel like you waisted you r money and not only that, there are so many people starving all over the world. Just try to have a back up plan. Unless you didn't know anyone that could have stored the food for you. It's been cold you could have sat everything outside. I am especially if you had them stored securely .

The mustard and the parmesean cheese should be ok (if it's the powder kind or if it's the actual cheese that you shred). Everything else I would toss, especially the yogurt. Give everything the sniff test, it'll be a good way to judge the condiments.

is the product still cold? if not then especially milk products should be tossed out. mustard, cheese, Bologna might make it. But again the meat make sure it still feels cool to the touch. mayo is another item you really don't want to let get warm due to being previously open and exposed to air. High salt content foods are slower to develop harmful bacteria.

unless you live in the warmer southern states you could next time put your food outside to keep cold.

If you left the fridge door shut most of the time they should have stayed cool anyway and should be OK.

If you didn't open the refrigerator, it would stay cold that long. They are probably ok.
