I just tried it also. I have the little rubber and plastic things that go in the bottom of the Avent lid also. I found that it does work to an extent. There is a little gap between the lid and the spout part, but that gap goes away once you attach the lid to the cup. The lid does not go all the way down on the cup either, but it does go down enough to where it does not dribble. The only water that came out was the little bit through the Avent spout holes when the cup is shaken.

The Nubi lids don't fit in the Avent cups though. They are designed to go a little farther into the lid than Avent spouts are. I was able to get it to go up enough to get the lid on the Avent cup, but then the Nubi spout wrinkles up, which can cause the air to be trapped inside instead of being able to escape through the air escape hole.

Even though the Avent spout works on the Nubi cup, I would keep them on their own cups-unless your child prefers the Avent spout, but needs the quantity of the Nubi cup. I like the Nubi spout better. It is much easier to clean. The Avent spout has more little parts to pull apart and wash!!

Also keep in mind that this is for the newer Nubi cups that have smaller lids/spouts than the older kind. (For the readers that may have just the older ones.)

By golly they do! I just tried as I have both but never thought to try. I had a bit of leakage but am unable to determine if this is b/c of the fit or the fact that I no longer have that rubbery piece that makes the avent cups sippy. But if you are in a pinch it is quite doable.
