I am assume you are talking about the port/trochar sizes. Generally any port 10mm or larger should be closed with sutures in the fascia or hernias can develop through the incisions. It is possible for hernias to develop even if the fascia is closed. Any hernia has the potential to cause a bowel obstruction.

I would say that you got off lightly as I have just had a op for what they said was a hernia and ended up with a nice 10 inche cut on my tummy and it never solved the problem either and now in alot of pain.
