no such thing as the upper or lower abdominals. the rectus abdominis is a single muscle. muscles either contract as a whole or they do not contract at all. you can not isolate part of a muscle either.

you need to clean up your diet and increase your daily level of activity. this will help to increase insulin sensitivity which is the first step towards reducing body fat.
