Can tax preparers get away with this?

I recently had someone do my taxes for me and he charged 160$ for filling out 2 additional forms other than the original 1040. The forms were simplistic and i notified him on which ones to fill out as well (im sure he already knew). I did it with H and R block and they charged me 50$ for the same thing last year. Am i able to call IRS and tell them not to accept paperwork from this individual. The forms i recieved back from him shows he added a credit of 235 twice. He told me over the phone it was corrected, yet the 1040 he sent me still shows it up there. The double tax credit was an additional 197$ that the IRS might pay me extra due to his negligence. I called the IRS to see if the correct amount was filed but the automated service says i have to check back in 3 weeks (by this time the money would be deposited into my acct.) He might be getting $300+ from my tax refund when it should only be 50. what actions can i take against this preparer to stop him from taking 33% of my return? can i stop the claim? dispute how much he is charging me? thanks for looking and helping

235 WAS INTEREST PAID ON SCHOOL LOAN. HE ADDED 235 AGAIN ON EDUCATION CREDITS WHERE IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN

You can not stop a return that has been submitted to the IRS. The only recourse if something was filed incorrectly would be to file an amended return. bring the error up to the management of the Tax preparation place, request that they file the amended return free of charge.. Wait to see if the IRS caught the error first.
If you get the refund based on the wrong numbers and it is not caught you will owe that money back. If the Tax preparer states that he corrected the error before submitting request a copy of the correct return

What you agreed to pay a tax preparer to prepare your return is a private matter. The IRS will not get involved in those types of disuputes.

I have no idea what you are talking about with the credit issue. If you would post the particular details -- what amounts on what lines of what forms -- maybe someone can assist.

Your preparer did not charge you 33% of your refund. If your refund was $10000, he would have charged the same $160 fee, I'm certain.

Your fee issue should have been brought up with the preparer's manager or a Block district office. While errors may happen, it doesn't sound intentional. Therefore, the IRS will not waste its resources nor does it care.

Remember, you did not pay the preparer to "fill out simplistic forms". You pay a preparer based on his/her supposed body of knowledge to fillout the forms based upon years (or in HRB's case...days) of training and experience.

When your doctor looks at you for 5 minutes, charges you $200 and says "go to the pharmacy and take this script", he's NOT charging you based on $2400 an hour for knowing how to fill in a prescription form. He's charging you because he has spent decades learning how to diagnose and resolve your health issue quickly and effectively.

The IRS doesn't get involved with payment disputes. If you went to H&R Block, that's your first mistake. NEVER go to them since they are expensive and incompetent.

You have to amend your return to correct the errors. They SHOULD fix the errors at their expense since it was THEIR preparer that screwed up.

Use Turbo Tax next time.
