Arthritis is inflammation of the joints put simply.
There are two types of arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis.
Osteo Arthritis is the more common one. People who have arthritis often have joint replacements, knees or hips. That's only when the disease is really bad affecting life greatly.
A joint has in it what is called Cartilage which if you like is a slippy material that lubricates the joint and helps it move. It is this that the arthritis affects causing it to wear away until in the extreme the joint becomes bone on bone and so immobile.
I have heard there are things that can ease it like what you eat. However the ultimate is to replace your Mum's knees before she grinds to a halt. Joint replacements give the sufferer a new life as they can move better, without creaking, pain and discomfort. It would be advisable to get the NHS ball rolling by seeing your GP who could refer her to an orthopaedic surgeon for assessment first.

Imagine for a moment your arthritis completely vanishing right now.
If, in a moment, your pain and stiffness melted away. And your joints all of a sudden functioned like a well-oiled machine.
Like a magic wand was waived, you'd be able to jump up from your chair and run around the room like a kid.
And imagine that you'd never have to suffer as much as a pinch of arthritis stiffness or pain ever again.
I know this sounds impossible right now, but bear with me, because sometimes miracles happen.
It was a gift from a woman on the other side of the world. From the kindness of her heart, she took pity on my suffering and taught me how to completely reverse my arthritis.
Today, I want to do the same for you!

I have had arthritis's (diagnosed with many different kinds) for over 20 years now, since i was a teenager.
There are things your mother will have to be careful of. Your mother really needs to go to the doctor. Find out if there has been any damage. I went through pills, surgeries, shots you name it. When I could no longer do conventional medicine I went herbal.
Go see a doctor...

I am 50 this year and have been taking Bromelain tablets. They really help my arthritis. They were recommended by my sister and have helped her too. Worth a try! They contain some sort of extract of pineapple which has been proved to help reduce inflammation. Pineapple juice also helps, so a glass a day would be beneficial.

Go to the website for Natural Essentials in the UK and order a product called Quorus One - it has worked for my husband so well. It's a product called CMO (look this up on google - there's excellent reviews) and there are so many reviews to say it is really effective. My hubby, Mr. GorgeousFluffpot, was in quite bad pain two weeks' ago when his hip flared up .... just one tablet and the pain decreased within the day, and he's now taking a maintenance course of the product.
This is the first thing we have found that really works, so do give it a try. Good luck

It is not wise to avoid conventional medicine as these medicines help relieve the inflammation that arthritis causes. You need to relieve the inflammation in order to help treat arthritis. Have her see a doc and get on some form or treatment to help relieve the pain and inflammation that is caused by arthitis.

Feel sorry for your mom. Apparently, she did not give herself enough calcium over the years. Although there are vitamins to help relieve the soreness and tightness of the joints. Other ways to get arthritis are from injuries and overworking the fingers and walking a lot. Walking is healthy for you, but if you did not take care of yourself properly using the right nutrition, the knees will hurt occasionally. If she has a doctor, she can get immediate relief by asking for a cortisone shot in her knees.
