Yeah, I know it's 2 questions. Answer either or both if you like.

I love to listen to AM radio when I excercise and work, but I can't find one that isn't all full of static or has headphones. Any suggestions?

The reason for the static is not the radio itself but it is because of the environment you use it in. If you go outside with it away from all electrical devices, engines, motors and power lines, I bet you will get just fine reception with that radio. The problem is the frequency the signals are transmitted on and amplitude modulation itself. AM broadcast radio operates on a low frequency. It does not penetrate buildings well at all. For an antenna to operate well, it should be at least a quarter of a wavelength long. On AM this is approximately 234 feet! It is impossible to carry a portable radio with an optimal AM antenna. A compromise is made by winding very thin wire at about that length around a ferrite rod inside the radio. Also, low frequencies have much more noise interference. Many things in your typical office or home create signal spurs/interference all across the AM band. Add that to the fact that amplitude modulation means that the variation of power of a signal is what creates the audio rather than a variation in frequency, any and everything can create spikes of RF radiation at the frequency you desire to listen to, anything from lightning to shocking your finger on a doorknob with static electricity. Flip a light switch and that tiny spark will make a noise on an AM radio. Frequency Modulation just isn't nearly as susceptible to this and the frequency that AM broadcast is at just makes it that much worse.

The only thing I can suggest is getting a good desktop AM radio paired with a good AM antenna. Hook that up to an FM modulator then tune your portable radio to the FM signal instead. There's just no good portable substitute to a good radio with a good antenna.
