Such an important issue, one cannot simply base all, and I mean one's life, in a simple hope.

Depends on the following at the time of your death:
* What your desires are
* What you owe others in any way (you did something bad to somebody, were helped a lot by others, ...)
* What others owe you in any way (somebody did something bad to you, you did many favors to others, ...)
Depending on the above, you next birth will be determined.

If none of the above apply, or their extent is very minimal, you may not be born again, but may have to work out your karma as a disembodied spirit. If your extremely fortunate, you can dissolve all your karma and then you will be able to dissolve into the Infinite.

Even 2 corinithians 11:14 says he can transform himself into an angel of light. So limited to a book, no not necessarily so.. Because God goes beyond a book, he is a spirit, a creator. And a snake can only hide his real self for but so long.. Because whats in the dark will ALWAYS come to the light. And he gives us wisdom to discern the two: both good and evil. Satan preys on everyone... Just pray for the ones who don't even know.

Such an important issue should not be based on mere human opinions. If you don't accept the Bible as God's word or believe that it is the word of God through and to human beings, then all you have left is human opinion. That's not very reassuring.

I believe what God states in His word. Nothing happens immediately after death. All are in the grave until the 1st or 2nd resurrection.

In the 1st resurrection the righteous are raised and are made immortal.

In the 2nd resurrection, the unrighteous are raised and are destroyed in the lake of fire.

The gift of immortality will be bestowed upon those who have cooperated with God in this life to develop a Christlike character.

The gift of immortality will not be given to the unrighteous so that they can spend billions of milleniums in flames of fire. The unrighteous will perish in the lake of fire with death, hell and Satan himself.

For me it goes beyond mere hope.
Since you want answers without hearing from scripture, I won't be able to answer you.
The fact of the matter is, there comes a point in a person's life that they become very aware of the truth of scripture. It goes beyond a hope and into a confirming knowledge.
It cannot be easily explained, at least, I have a hard time trying.

No Bible quotes)?

ROFL. Ok so you want the wild guess of a high school drop out, ex alcoholic / drug addict, Satanist, Atheist, Pagan, Wiccan, Taoist, Shaman, Humanist? You are really nuts!

But alas here it goes.
We go directly to the presence of Almighty GOD and what happens after that completely depends on the choices you make now.
Shalom!

Isn't belief in ancient religious writings a pretty simple (-minded) hope?

There is empirical evidence for life after death. Some suggests reincarnation, some suggests a discarnate existence of some kind.

I guess I'll find out when the time comes. Personally, I want my spirit to travel through space and time, crossing dimensions into worlds unconceivable to the imagination of man. But chances are, we'll just rot.

well the first thing that you notice upo death is that your body will actually form a tunnel. what happens then is that you follow that tunnel toward a brilliantly white/blue light. when you get there you will be in your true home called the other side, where all the peole who died before you went. we all existed there before here and we all will go back.

Dear Friend,

Either you believe or you do not? If you do believe then it is not simply a hope, but a fact!

God Bless
