SHe is happy and the treading that she does is what she would have done as a kitten to get milk from her mother! She loves you!

Cats do compared to regulate... in any respect. in case you want to initiate giving them new food, you need to blend it with the former food, and each and on a daily basis blend it with a lot less and a lot less of the former food till faster or later you're giving her completely the hot food. this must be done over the technique 7-10 days. That way, you're slowly easing her into the substitute, quite of "BAM! you do not get that previous food ever again! eat this or no longer some thing!" because that is what she's wondering in her hungry little kitty head.

i don't know about the sofa licking, but my cats, one in particular, do the paw pushing. i think they do this to show that they are happy with the petting and stroking they're getting, but it is also to sharpen their claws.....

We call this "making puddings" or kneading. It's what little kittens do instinctively when they feed off their mum because it triggers the milk let down response. Actually most mammals do it, whether its lambs/kids/calves/squiglets butting their mums teats or human babes doing the little hand squeezy thing. They all purr loads when this happens and are happy cats/kids/sweet lil things. You cat isn't strange at all - she's doing what cats naturally do when they're happy. She loves you!!
I had a cat, George, who'd to this if I wore a fluffy, black jumper. His mum was black and my jumper took him straight back to his kittyhood memories. Love your kitty!
p.s. great question and love the answers!!

She is "Kneading" which is usually done when they are kittens to stimulate the mother's milk glands. The licking is mimicking of the suckling they would do on the mother's nipple. Cats do this when they are content and happy as well.

agree with all the kneading comments.

Re licking the sofa, my cat hasn't got a terribly good aim so if she's licking herself or me, she also gets whatever is behind the object of her attention. so if she's licking her paw she may well get the bedspread too.

Don't worry nothing's wrong! She's just kneading. She might have been weined to soon from her mom i had a cat who used to do that all of the time & he was a stray most cats that are weined to soon do this it's perfectly normal

That "kneading" behaviour is a throwback to when she was a kitten and it would persuade her mother to produce milk for her. Nearly all cats do this gentle trampling when they're very happy and content.

This is what they would do as kittens when they were suckling on their mother. It's possible that cats keep doing this because they were taken away from their mother too young, but I think they just do it through life when they feel comfortable.

she is kneading ....it's what they do in nature to fluff up their bedding or as kittens they do that on a the mothers breasts to get milk. totally normal it means your cat is happy and content! (it's a good sign)
