It's hard when families must move out of state because they can't afford for live where they grew up. I remember all my family living in the same town - blocks from one another, now we have to fly to see grandma and grandpa and its expensive. Its sad but when I need to talk with anyone, I call. Now our neighbors and friends have become our families and there is nothing wrong with new traditions - Just be happy.
Times change we all should slow down just a little. Remember to smell those roses.
Enjoy your family!

in this life joint family is hard and too expensive, and secondly both the parents are working so there is no time.. that is the reason for this..
I dont agree with Raman that there were no fights in olden days, actually there were fights in the olden days too, but the house was ruled by one person who was the head of the family and he would try to solve the problem.. and no one could speak.. but now all are educated, and they are working and they are independent to argue and feel easy to stay far than having the fight between themselves..

I feel truly blessed to be a part of my grand-children's lives. We are busy people but are smart enough to make time for the people that are important, like family. Grandparents can be a valuable part in the lives of their children and grandchildren. We have life experiences that grandchildren would like to share. We have love ,kindness and patience that over time has become a part of our being.I remember when my grandson told me I was in his heart. He told me this when he said he missed me. Those words brought tears to my eyes.Distance and hectic schedules can make contact difficult, but it is worth the effort and the payout is priceless.

Yes, it's true that 'nuclear families' are prevalent now. It's because now people are becoming wrapped up in their careers. They dare to put their parents into old age homes, or tell them (parents) that they can manage on their own. They say they don't have time for them. I find it disgusting. I love my parents very much, and I would never hesitate to take care of them in their old age.

you mean why arent there as many joint/extended families together? i suppose that scince many people are so busy in this modern era, that its just more convenient for someone to have an immediate family instead of a more extended one.
