There was a mousetrap in my grandma's basement. I heard the mouse get snapped, and for 10 minutes listened to it struggle. Another 5 minutes went by, and I couldn't take it anymore so I drowned the poor little thing...His body was broken, there was no way I could let him go..He would have died a slow miserable death...Is it bad I helped him go faster?

There are far more efficient and painless methods for terminating the life of a fatally injured animal, however, I commend you for acting out of pity for such a lowly creature and seeking to end its pain. I know many people who would have proudly said, "Ah, listen to that vermin. Isn't it great to be human?" You on the other hand acted with compassion and mercy, with an understanding of the need to be kind to all things.

Thank you for being human.

Well it as better for the mouse that way it didnt suffer. Just think, would like to be drowned if you were that mouse? Or woul dyou rather keep suffering? And no, i believe you're not going to hell because you were helping the mouse.

Mice spread some nasty diseases.

Still, it didn't deserve to suffer as it did and rest assured you did the correct thing. Even if it's body wasn't broken by the trap do not allow them to live in your dwelling.

Here is a link to a Arizona Department of Health story talking about one disease mice are known to spread: http://www.azdhs.gov/news/2006-all/hantavirus.htm

If after all of this, you still feel you committed a mortal sin, go to confession and confess your sin.

No, you helped him out of his misery. I once had to hit a little mouse over the head with a spade. It was in the kitchen and was just sat there, dazed...that was before I hit it over the head. I still feel guilty about it, but it was obviously sick, or traumatized by my brother's screaming ! You helped your grandma too. Imagine if it had jumped out at her
