It all depends on the users preference:
Starting at the beginning, I assume your camera will be something between a 4-8 MP...And that also depends on the type of memory card being used...I assume again that you are using one of the two main types only. Either a Compact Flash card or SD card. Next the brand that I recommend you buying is "Sandisk Ultra" this is just to reassure yourself that your memory won't fail on you even if the condition worsen. Next is the amount of pictures you will be taking while on your trip to Thailand. Since you will be on a photo tour this is what I think of:

I assume 150 Pictures a day...times it by 7 =this gives you one week worth.....

15Opics X 7days=1050pictures taken over a period of 7days

1050pics X 3/7days = 3150pictures taken over a 3 week period.

Ontop of the 3150 + (500 extra for personal usage) = est. 3200-4000 pictures will be taken.... and that you will be coming back to your hotel once in a while like every 3days.....

Either one of the memory card type you use...I recommend you go with a:

Compact Type:
2GB.....................................................Buy 4 (3 if u have laptop)
4GB.....................................................Buy 3 (2 if u have laptop)
but just choose one only either stick with 4 or 2....price is about the same....Go with the Ultra Sandisk....

SD Type:
2GB......................................................Buy 3

Heres the calculation:
2GB = 600* avg pic

P.S. The problem with the IPOD as your portable hard drive is not as simple as it looks...number one buying an IPOD cost money....number two....buying the accessories to transfer pictures to IPOD will only be sold at third party...if you don't want to much hassle....hell....stick with a laptop....Thailand allows laptop....as far as i know....They have safe box....where you can purchase.....at the hotel...

I used to take a laptop with me - over 2 weeks I can shoot 2000+ pictures. But the laptop is bulky when your traveling. There is always a risk when you leave it in your room. In some countries it is not unusual for "certain government people" to enter your room when you are out and screw with your computer.

On a recent trip I took a "Hyperdrive" mass memory device. It is basically a laptop hard drive (40 GB ~ $200) with a multiple card reader, simple LCD interface, and rechargeable battery compartment. Small enough to fit in the camera bag. Worked great. Plugs into the USB port on your computer and the looks just like an external drive. But you can't preview or edit the pictures. Epson has a similar product with a small LCD screen, but costs ~ $200 more. The screen isn't large enough to tell much about the photos, so I figured it wasn't worth the extra $$$.

If there are vacant slots for particular quantities of memory then which means the motherboard is designed to operate on the envisioned % of the blended volume of memory. as an get mutually, once you've 4 vacant slots and they were designed for both 512MB or 1GB each and each and every slot. which means, the motherboard is envisioned to operate at 2048MB or 4GB tops it is the reduce. considering 2GB is more beneficial than sufficient of RAM then you quite ought to discard both 512MB memory sticks. in accordance to you operating equipment (no matter if it is Vista or XP), 2GB is already previous the golden purpose which grow to be 512MB. no count number how a lot multi-tasking you do and how a lot 3D outcomes your pc performs, i'm particular that memory intake does no longer exceed 1GB yet. and that is each and everything from multi-tasking to 3D outcomes. the last 1GB isn't some thing.

Here's a possible solution. I take 2-3 memory cards and an iPod. If you have a photo/video iPod, you can connect a media card reader to it, and dump your pictures on it, at the end of the day. Apple sells a usb adapter for $29 and belkin makes a more sophisticated one for $50-60. Not to mention the the iPod charger is international. You can get a $10 plug adapter for Thailand and that's all you would need to charge it.

i would bring my laptop and any pictures that i had taken that day- upload to my computer. if you take one- dont make it expensive, i would just bring a PDA-

you can travel pretty easily, but i do not know a thing about customs -i would they give u a hasle?

If you dont want to do that-they make 4g memory cards -andwhere u can getalotof pics, what i would do every day is - most motels ofer free service on computer-just take advantage of that and clear you memory cards every day- you can get a FREE PHOTOBUCKET account this way you can have folders for every day -to help organize.

OR another idea would be to get an external hard drive that u can just add them to that.

Also, if you have a mobile phone, you can just send your photo from your phone. They give you mobile upload address.

If you just want to take pictures and keep them to print when you get back home, then buy a few 1gb sd cards or whatever type you need. If you want to view your pictures and or print them then you should take your laptop as well. But because you are going overseas, i would suggest taking 3 or 4 1gb memory cards because customs may cause you some trouble traveling with a laptop. Pluss if you loose or break or your laptop gets stolen, they are much more expensive to replace then your memory cards.

Usually I bring laptop and 2-3 SD card of 1 GB

Laptop is mostly for web browing, getting info of yr trip and communicate

The SD card is useful for 1000s of photos

1GB SD can store 3,000 photo low res or 1,000 high res - 1 shall be enough for most trips
