I told my roommate that I wish I was skinny enough to be able to wear shirts that show off my belly because I'm tired of being so overweight, & she's also obese. She responded, "NOW, WHY WOULD YOU WANNA SHOW OFF YOUR BELLY?! That's immature teenage stuff that women wanna show off their figures!"
Normally, a woman would love to flaunt off her nice sexy body from all that hard work she accomplished from losing weight. Am I right or wrong?

Sounds like you did nothing wrong, and if you really want to change your body go for it! Nothing wrong with wanting to show a pretty bod.

Nothing wrong with that. Many are the times I've said that very thing. She over-reacted. I'm not sayin women should walk around in clothes so small if the sneeze the "secrets out". But nothing wrong with a bit of belly. If you got it, flaunt it

This is so individual -- one person would like to show off her belly, another wouldn't. What would bother me is having this person universalize her own opinion -- if SHE doesn't want it, no-one else is allowed to? My response might be, "Well, maybe you wouldn't want to, but I would -- and I really don't think that makes me adolescent or immature." I'll bet she has strong opinions about a lot of things. Of course, you may be hearing how she deals with her own feelings about being overweight -- kind of like sour grapes, saying you don't want something that you don't have anyway. You hear this a lot -- people speaking scornfully of things that they don't and couldn't have anyway.

I agree with you, I don't think it is immature and stupid. I lost alot of weight when I was in college, and I still love to wear shirts that show off the figure that I have now!

I guess if you want to show off your belly, it's your right.
Is your roommate more modest? I am not referring to her "size" but to her modesty. Some women do no like to show off their bellies- in some places it is considered improper (like at work or in a church, for example). If you are going to a party or to someplace casual, then, it is probably o.k.
If your outfit is tasteful, then, it sounds o.k. to me. I wouldn't do it myself. I wasn't brought up that way. I would feel very self-conscious about it. But, since you didn't ask about me, and you asked about yourself.... give it a try.

I like to see a little belly. Don't hide it because of someone else is envious of you. If your roommate is your friend she should be more supportive. Encourage her to get her figure more presentable so she can show off hers without feeling envious.

She's right. It IS childish... once you're over 25. Women in their 30's, 40's and 50's with half tops and belly rings are NOT sexy, but rather pathetic.

She's envious. She thinks that because she doesn't want to show off her body, nobody else should want to either. She's making it into something immoral so that she can feel better about not doing it.

She would also feel differently if she was skinny. To be real honest, I think she's afraid to try to lose weight, because she is afraid to fail. Every woman wants to feel hot.

No, from personal experience ... and I feel like I am backed up here by Maury AND Jerry ... fatties should be free to do what they want .. it's their hot body ... and if they want to show off their beachball stomachs, then, Whateva, I do what I want!!!
