I love the train; I get my tickets on Amtrak.com they have all the routes on line. My only suggestions would be to bring a pillow and blanket. They have some on the train but they are sometimes hard to find and it is cold on the train. Also bring some snacks do to they are kind of expensive but if you do go to the dinning car it does have very nice food. You do have to order the tickets about two weeks prior to the date you leave due to they will mail you the ticket but if you can't you make the reservation and they will have you get off the train at the first manned station and pay for your tickets
