I've heard you have 180 days to get out of the military as a way for the military to weed out who truly doesn't want to be in. If you complete bootcamp is it too late to get out?

Before you do your final contract and swear in on your last visit to MEPS, before you ship to boot camp, is your last chance to get out semi easily. Once you go to boot camp, you can "refuse to train", but you will be where ever you go for boot camp, doing odd jobs/manual labor for weeks till they process you out, and you will NOT get an Honorable Discharge, and will be marked forever as not being able to voluntarily enlist.

Uncle Sam ownes your tail for the next number of years. Make the best of it. Further your education. Take all the college courses you can. Join the GI Bill. Get more training. Your contract will go by before you know it and then separate.

That's about right.

You can opt out during Bootcamp, or at least you could when I was there. It wasn't an easy process but you could none the less. It was just under ten years ago for me, I can't imagine it changed a whole lot.

Not in the US military. Some other countries have similar programs.
